☑️ Принимал участие в Отечественной войне 1812 г. и последующем заграничном походе русской армии 1813 г.;

☑️ Работал над конституциями Швейцарии и Франции после свержения Наполеона;

☑️ Подписал Парижский мирный договор 1815 г. от имени нашей страны;

☑️ Дослужился до Министра (статс-секретаря по иностранным делам Российской Империи);

☑️ Боролся за права балканских народов;

🇷🇺 Excerpts from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s address on the occasion of Russia’s Diplomatic Worker’s Day:

📍 February 10, 2024, Moscow

🤝 Today we celebrate a professional holiday that unites many generations of diplomats who have dedicated their lives to serving Russia. We pay tribute to the emerging tradition of honoring our country’s diplomatic staff, a tradition that began in 2003, when we first commemorated this notable date per President Vladimir Putin’s decree.

🛡️ Loyalty to the ideals of patriotism has always distinguished our diplomats, who at all times – under any socio-political system and in any circumstances – have firmly protected the interests of the Motherland. The names of many of them are forever inscribed in Russia’s glorious historical record: Alexander Bezborodko, Alexander Gorchakov, Alexandra Kollontai, Anatoly Dobrynin, Evgeniy Primakov, and Vitaliy Churkin, among many, many others. We carefully preserve their memory and honor their achievements.

🏅 2025 holds a special place in the diplomatic calendar - it is celebrated under the banner of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, World War II, and it has been declared the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland. We extend our deepest gratitude to the immortal feat of the staff of the People’s Commissariat for Foreign Affairs, who in those harsh wartime years took up arms to defend our homeland. We remember the diplomats, our senior colleagues, who helped bring the Victory closer on the foreign policy front. They made an invaluable contribution to forming the anti-Hitler coalition and then to reaching fundamental agreements on the postwar world order.

🇺🇳 The most important of these agreements were the decisions to create the United Nations and adopt its Charter – the principles and goals of which, in their entirety and interconnectedness, remain just as relevant today. Thanks in large part to the decisive role of our country’s leadership and its diplomatic service, the Yalta-Potsdam system of international relations has continued to guarantee global peace and security for eight decades.

❗️ Today, as Russia once again confronts momentous challenges, our foremost task and sacred duty is to uphold a peace based on the legal outcomes of the Second World War. There is no doubt that this noble objective will be achieved, despite all the efforts of our adversaries and outright enemies, who have relied on blatant falsification of historical facts, the resurgence of Nazism and militarism, and the curtailment of international dialogue and cooperation – in an attempt to suppress Russia and other competitors for the sake of power-based dominance and neo-colonialism.

🌐 We will continue to do all we can to protect our national interests in the context of providing foreign policy support for the special military operation, and to establish the safest and most favorable conditions for the development of our country and the well-being of our citizens. We will further expand multifaceted cooperation with all responsible partners, and above all, with the Global Majority – states in the near abroad, Greater Eurasia, Africa, and Latin America. In cooperation with our many friends and like-minded colleagues, we will work to strengthen the foundations of multipolarity, to build a Eurasian security architecture, and to establish frameworks for international interaction that are immune to the destructive influence of the Western minority.

#HistoryOfDiplomacy

8️⃣0️⃣ years ago, on February 4, 1945, the Yalta (Crimea) Conference of the Allied leaders — Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D.Roosevelt officially opened.

#YaltaConference of the Anti-Hitler coalition leaders went down in history as one of the most significant and key international meetings of the 'Big Three' during #WWII. The Yalta talks became a symbol of successful cooperation between the Soviet Union, the US and the UK in the fight against the common enemy — Nazism.

The decisions taken at the Conference outlined the frame of the post-war #YaltaPotsdam international relations system, with the #UNCharter becoming its international legal basis.

***

By late 1944 — early 1945, the Red Army expelled the enemy from all the territory of the Soviet Union and proceeded with the operations aimed at liberating Europe from the Nazis.

🌟 In the first days of February 1945, the forces of the Red Army's 1st Byelorussian and the 1st Ukrainian Fronts successfully completed the Vistula-Oder Offensive, overcoming over 500 kilometres in less than a month (!), liberated Poland and then reached the border with Germany. Berlin was just 60 kilometres away. The collapse of the Third Reich was just a matter of time.

As the long-awaited common Allies' #Victory over Nazi Germany was as close as never, the future post-war world order-related issues needed to be discussed by the victorious great powers. While the Soviet forces were rapidly advancing in Eastern Europe in January, the preparations for the big negotiations to shape the future of the world were in full swing. Yalta, a Crimean city, was picked as the venue for that historic meeting (February 4-11, 1945).

The fate of post-war Germany was the key focus of the Yalta Conference. The Allies reaffirmed their commitment to eliminating German militarism and Nazism, and creating guarantees that “Germany would never be able again to disturb peace of the
world.”

At the Yalta talks, the 'Big Three' managed to reach agreement on Poland’s post-war borders. The Soviet delegation consistently promoted the idea of ensuring the interests of the Poles and their fundamental right to independence and sovereignty. Winston Churchill, addressing the House of Commons upon his return from Yalta, on February 27, said: "If not for the prodigious exertions and sacrifices of Russia, Poland was doomed to utter destruction at the hands of the Germans. Not only Poland as a state and as a nation, but the Poles as a race were doomed by Hitler to be destroyed or reduced to a servile station".

The Yalta Conference resulted also in adopting of 'the Declaration of Free Europe' and other crucial international legal documents on the fundamental principles of the #UnitedNations, laying down the foundation of the Yalta-Potsdam international system.

☝️ The rapidly strengthening international posture and influence of the Soviet Union, bolstered by the outstanding achievements of the Red Army in the battlefields, had a significant impact on the course and the outcomes of the negotiations. By the time Europe was almost freed from the shackles of hitlerism, the Soviet soldier enjoyed the fame of liberator whose noble feat was well-known all across the continent.

The decisions of the Yalta Conference strengthened the anti-fascist coalition in the final stages of WWII and contributed to the Victory over Germany.

🎙 From a briefing by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (Saransk, January 31, 2025):

💬 "The participants in the Yalta Conference managed to overcome their differences, and, acting in the spirit of true solidarity, mutual respect and trust, abandoned their fleeting interests for the sake of defeating the common enemy and achieving a common victory, peace and freedom for all countries and peoples.

Unfortunately, much has changed since then. Now, multiple proponents of historical revisionism tend to falsify historical reality and associate the Yalta agreements with the split of Europe and the bloc confrontation of the post-war period.

🎙️ Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the atrocities committed by Ukrainian militants in the village of Russkoye Porechnoye, Kursk Region:

📍 February 1, 2025

▪️ We consider it extremely important to inform the widest possible international audience about the crimes committed by the AFU in the temporarily occupied territories of the Kursk Region. Russian authorities have already gathered extensive evidence detailing the punitive operations conducted by neo-Nazis against the civilian population, which is protected by various international documents, including the mandatory provisions of the IV Geneva Convention.

▪️ Particular attention should be paid to the selective nature of the militants' repressions against the most socially vulnerable segments of the occupied population – elderly citizens.

▪️ The visual evidence released by the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation clearly reveals grave violations committed during an armed conflict: hands bound with tape, signs of torture, bruises from beatings, gunshot wounds, bodies of people who died after hours of abuse by criminals, as well as evidence of rape and other acts of sexual violence. The involvement of several identified Ukrainian servicemen from the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade in these crimes has been established.

❗️ We believe that the vile nature of the actions of Kiev’s militants in the Kursk Region must be widely presented on international platforms such as the UN, OSCE, and their specialized agencies. These crimes should be documented by representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross and should become the subject of investigations by international human rights mechanisms, including non-governmental organizations.

❗️ We are confident that the true nature of Zelenskiy’s junta is most clearly manifested in Russkoye Porechnoye - a name that, evidently, triggered the Russophobic regime in Kiev and its armed gangs. The post-Maidan authorities, supported by the "collective West", are waging war against everything Russian.

Statement by Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Gennady Gatilov:

🇺🇳 On January 27, at the UN Office in Geneva, on the 80th anniversary of the Red Army’s liberation of Auschwitz – the largest and most horrifying Nazi death camp – an event was held to commemorate the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Speakers included UN Secretary-General António Guterres (via video message), UNOG Director-General Tatiana Valovaya, Israel’s Permanent Representative Daniel Meron, Head of the Permanent Delegation of the EU Lotte Knudsen, and Professor Ivan Lefkovits, who survived the horrors of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as a child.

🕯 The speakers reflected on the horrors of the Holocaust, honoured the memory of its victims, and clearly identified the perpetrators of the tragedy: the leadership of Nazi Germany, Wehrmacht and SS members, collaborators, guards and executioners of the concentration camps.

❌ Regrettably, the speakers failed to acknowledge the liberators – the Soviet soldiers who stopped the majority of Nazi "factories of death". It was these heroes who, on January 27, 1945, opened the gates of Auschwitz, putting an end to the inhumane atrocities committed within its walls.

❗️ In Russia, the memory of World War II victims is preserved with great care. Our country holds annual commemorative events, maintains thematic museums, and implements educational initiatives to honor this history. Discussing the Holocaust without acknowledging those who paid the ultimate price to stop the mass extermination of people would be profoundly dishonorable. This is why we must remember all participants of this colossal tragedy – the perpetrators, their victims, and the heroes – the soldiers of the Red Army and Allied forces who liberated the world from the "brown plague".

👉 In her speech today, Ms. Knudsen rightly emphasized the need to counter attempts to distort history and underlined the critical role of education in combating hatred. We fully share this view and urge the “collective West” to finally turn words into meaningful action.
Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Ambassador Gennady Gatilov, in his interview with TASS and RIA Novosti on the occasion of Diplomatic Worker’s Day:

📍 February 10, 2025

☢️ #NuclearDisarmament

• The Americans have been talking for a long time about their supposed desire to resume contacts with Russia on arms control. However, in practice, there has been no real discussion about reviving serious dialogue on nuclear arms control – after all, it was Washington that halted it in the first place. And such a dialogue could not have taken place, as the US is simply not ready for it. How can a normal dialogue exist between two countries when one side refuses to recognize the other as an equal? When it disregards its legitimate interests, including in the sphere of security?

• Instead, the US is doing everything it can to inflict maximum damage on Russia – militarily, financially, economically, and politically – while hypocritically claiming that these actions have nothing to do with arms control. Their logic seems to be: We will undermine your security and pretend nothing is happening, while you, Russia, should help us by reducing your military potential through new legally binding agreements. That’s not an option.

🇷🇺🩺 #RussiaWHO

• According to assessments by the WHO Secretariat and many independent experts, the withdrawal of the US from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2026 will undoubtedly have negative consequences for global efforts aimed at "achieving the highest possible level of health for all people" (the main goal of the WHO). That said, I wouldn’t be so quick to “bury” the Organization. As Mark Twain would say, "The reports of its death have been greatly exaggerated".

• I doubt that leaving the WHO will help Donald Trump’s administration more effectively address the many healthcare challenges facing the US. Quite the opposite. As for Russia, we will continue to use the WHO platform for mutually beneficial dialogue with all interested states.

🇷🇺🇸🇾 #RussiaSyria

• Russia has always perceived the Syrian people as a close and friendly nation and continues to do so. The relations between our countries are not dictated by short-term political considerations, they deep historical roots, based on principles of friendship, mutual respect, and strategic partnership.

The UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, plays an important role in the Syrian settlement process and enjoys the support of all UN Security Council members. His mission should be aimed at facilitating the creation of an inclusive and stable government capable of uniting the Syrian people and ensuring stability in the country. In this regard, we maintain regular working contacts with him.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 #RussiaUSA

• There is currently complete uncertainty and confusion within the US delegation in Geneva regarding how to act in international organizations following the decisions made by President Trump.

• In many organizations, they show no activity at all – just sitting and listening, which is highly unusual for the US delegation. Take, for example, the Conference on Disarmament, where we used to regularly engage in debates with the Americans, defending our respective positions. They would accuse us, we would present our stance, and so on. But now, for the past several meetings, their representatives have been completely silent and invisible. The same is happening in a number of other international bodies.

• This is something I’m witnessing for the first time since my appointment in Geneva. It appears that American diplomats haven't yet received the necessary instructions from the State Department or the White House on how to proceed.

🔹 в создании Конференции ООН по торговле и развитию (ЮНКТАД), инициированной СССР;
🔹 в проведении двух «десятилетий разоружения», в рамках которых СССР принял политику «неприменения ядерного оружия первым» и заявил о приоритете мирных ядерных исследований;

🏅 Орденом Ленина;
🏅 Орденом Октябрьской Революции;
🏅 Двумя орденами Трудового Красного Знамени;
🏅 Орденом Дружбы народов;

🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's article "The UN Charter Should Become the Legal Foundation of a Multipolar World", published in Russia in Global Affairs magazine (February 4, 2025)

Read in full

💬 80 years ago, on 4 February 1945, the leaders of the victors of World War II ― the Soviet Union, the United States, and Britain ― opened the Yalta Conference to determine the contours of the postwar world. <...>

One result of the negotiations was the creation of the United Nations and the approval of the UN Charter, which to this day remains the main source of international law. The Charter set forth goals and principles for countries’ behavior, which are designed to ensure their peaceful coexistence and sustained development.

The principle of the sovereign equality of states laid the foundation for the Yalta-Potsdam system: none may claim dominance, as all are formally equal regardless of territory, population, military capabilities, or other metrics.

<...> The UN-based world order fulfills its main task ― safeguarding everyone against a new world war. Truly, “the UN has not brought us to paradise but saved us from hell.”

🔹 Key points:

• The veto power enshrined in the Charter ― which is not a ‘privilege,’ but a burden of special responsibility for safeguarding peace ― serves as a solid barrier against reckless decisions and provides room for finding compromise based on a balance of interests.

• The UN has served as a unique universal platform for developing collective responses to common challenges, maintaining international peace and security and promoting socio-economic development.

• It was at the UN that, with a key role played by the USSR, the foundation was laid for the multipolar world that is now emerging before our eyes.

• The UN-centric order is thus based on international ― truly universal ― law, from which it follows that every state should abide by that law.

• Russia, like the majority of the world community, has never had any difficulty doing so. But the West was never cured of its syndrome of exceptionalism, and retains its neocolonial habits, i.e. living at the expense of others. Interstate relations based on respect for international law were, from the very beginning, not to the West’s liking.

• One manifestation of the ‘rules-based order’ was Washington’s policy of geopolitically absorbing Eastern Europe. Russia has been forced to eliminate its explosive consequences with the Special Military Operation.

❗️ Brazen attempts to reorder the world in one’s own interest, violating UN principles, may bring instability, confrontation, and even catastrophe. Given the current level of international tensions, a reckless rejection of the Yalta-Potsdam system, with the UN and its Charter at its core, will inevitably lead to chaos.

🇺🇳 Russia is ready for joint honest work to balance parties’ interests and to strengthen the legal principles of international relations. <...>

The most important thing, according to Russia's President Vladimir Putin, is “to regain an understanding of what the United Nations was created for, and to follow the principles that are set forth in its founding documents.” This should be the foremost guideline for regulating international relations in the multipolar era that has dawned.

🎙 Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the atrocities committed by Ukrainian militants in the Kursk Region:

📍 January 31, 2025

▪️ The latest documented atrocities by militants of Ukrainian armed groups were committed in the village of Russkoye Porechnoye, Kursk Region, recently liberated by the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

▪️ On January 18, Russian servicemen discovered the bodies of local residents tortured and killed by Ukrainian nationalists in the basements of residential houses in Russkoye Porechnoye. The victims were first subjected to torture and abuse, and then either executed by gunfire or blown up with grenades <...>

▪️ Today, we will publish the relevant materials obtained from Russian law enforcement agencies. I warn you in advance that the videos are extremely graphic. However, both videos and photos taken on-site by our military present undeniable evidence of a monstrous, gruesome crime – a total desecration of all that is moral and human.

▪️ The mutilated bodies of mostly elderly Russian citizens were found with their hands tied with tape, showing signs of torture, hematomas from beatings, and gunshot wounds <...>

▪️ The Main Military Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has opened a criminal case against members of Ukrainian armed groups involved in the terrorist act against civilians in the Kursk Region under paragraph "b" of part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act resulting in the death of a person").

▪️ The preliminary investigation has established the involvement of several Ukrainian servicemen from the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade in this crime. Among them is serviceman Evgeniy Fabrisenko, commander of the 11th company of the 4th battalion, known by the call sign "Kum", as well as three other soldiers with the call signs "Motyl", "Provodnik", and "Khudozhnik". They are suspected of committing a terrorist act, rape, and acts of sexual violence carried out by a group of persons.

▪️ During combat operations in the Sudzha District of the Kursk Region, Yevgeny Fabrisenko was captured by servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. During interrogation as a suspect, he fully admitted guilt and provided detailed testimony about the grave crimes he committed with his accomplices.

▪️ Between September 28 and November 24, 2024, they killed 11 men and 3 women in the village of Russkoye Porechnoye. Additionally, they committed acts of rape and sexual violence against 8 women, whom they later killed. The perpetrators then moved the bodies of the 22 murdered civilians into the basements of private houses in Russkoye Porechnoye <...>

❗️ We call on all witnesses and anyone with information about these atrocities committed by the Kiev regime to report it to the Investigative Committee of Russia, which has published contact details for submitting relevant information.

🎙 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks at 14th Middle East Conference on the sidelines of Valdai International Discussion Club (Moscow, February 4, 2025)

Key talking points:

The Middle East is not a playground. The key to resolving the many conflicts there is the creation of a Palestinian state. Numerous resolutions to this effect have been adopted at the UN General Assembly and Security Council.

• The West has no respect whatsoever for international law. It only selects the parts of law it finds applicable at any given moment.

• The latest data show that the crisis in Gaza has claimed the lives of 46'000 Palestinian civilians (perhaps even more, as statistics vary). Around 100'000 civilians, and counting, have been injured. Despite ceasefires, outbreaks of violence can be seen across the region.

• Good thing that a ceasefire was finally reached after more than a year of the Security Council’s attempts to call for one. The Americans blocked all of them, using their veto power on six occasions. Then, they came up with a resolution of their own, which was presented as a solution to all issues. However, when, prior to the vote, we asked the parties (primarily Israel) whether they were willing to implement it, they evaded answering this question which is why we chose not to support it. We abstained. But it was adopted nonetheless. As anticipated, nothing changed.

• I believe the new administration in the White House contributed to quickening the negotiating process. However, the key role was played by Egypt and Qatar, which, in conjunction with the Americans, secured agreements from Israel and Hamas, the first phase of which is now being implemented.

• Despite the developments unfolding in Syria and Lebanon, Libya also remains plagued by unresolved issues, where the West and East cannot agree on the way forward to address the political process. The UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy, Geir Pedersen, is acting not too transparently and utterly ineffectively.

• Syria faces major problems, including issues with the current leadership represented by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leader Ahmed Hussein al-Sharaa and the groups that were part of this organisation. After the change of power in Syria, they didn’t get along in terms of establishing a dialogue and understanding each other. What they should do is try to promote national dialogue as best they can, without seeking to gain geopolitical points, but thinking primarily about the future of the Syrian people. This requires concerted efforts of all external players who can influence this situation. The attempts to exclude Russia, China, and Iran from the process of providing external support for Syrian settlement are hardly driven by good intentions, but, instead, reveal the West’s plans to push its competitors to less meaningful secondary positions.

🌟 February 2, 1943, one of the most brutal battles of #WWII and all of history — the Battle of Stalingrad — concluded.

For 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ days and nights the Battle of Stalingrad raged on the banks of the Don and the Volga rivers, and in the city proper, or rather what was left of it following merciless Nazi bombardments and stubborn defender fighting for every street, alley and house. The battle itself surpassed in scope and intensity all prior battles of #WWII. During that battle, more than 2.1 million people fought on both sides.

By the end of June 1942, the Nazis concentrated in the strip of land from Kursk to Taganrog on the front of 600-650 kilometers up to 35% of infantry, over 50% of armour and motorized divisions of the total number of Wehrmacht troops deployed on the Soviet-German front.

During the planning of the Stalingrad operation, the enemy had several objectives: to gain a foothold on the Volga River and thus deprive the #SovietUnion of control over one of the most important transportation arteries of the country. The capture of #Stalingrad, according to the assessment of the Nazi military command, would open the way for the Wehrmacht to the Caucasus, where the Germans hoped to obtain the most important resource for making the war machine continue — oil fields.

Traditionally, according to the historians, the Battle was divided into two stages:

Defensive phase: from July 17 to November 18, 1942;
Offensive phase: from November 19, 1942 to February 2, 1943.

During the first stage, July 17 - November 18, 1942, the Red Army had to conduct defensive operations and engaged the enemy in fierce street battles directly in the city. The forces of the 62nd and 64th Soviet armies, led by Vassily Chuikov, commander of the 62nd Army, engaged the troops of the 6th Army of the Wehrmacht under the command of Lieutenant General Paulus.

By mid-November 1942, as a result of stubborn resistance and the deployment of the Red Army reserves favorable conditions were created for launching the counteroffensive. The plan for the operation code-named #Uranus was developed under the leadership of Army General Georgy Zhukov and Colonel General Alexander Vasilevsky.

During the large-scale counteroffensive at Stalingrad (November 19, 1942 — February 2, 1943), Soviet forces conducted the operation #Ring, during which the Red Army managed to drive Paulus's 6th Army into a “cauldron” between the Don and Volga rivers. Realizing the futility of further action, by the end of January the Nazi units began to surrender en masse.

On January, 31, General Paulus (promoted by Hitler to to General-Field Marshal), together with other German generals and officers at Stalingrad finally surrendered. On February 2, the last pockets of Nazi resistance were eliminated.

The #BattleOfStalingrad ended with a complete victory of the Red Army. For the first time ever the all-consuming Nazi war machine was weighed, measured and found wanting. This marked a turning point not only in the the Great Patriotic War, but that of the entire #WWII.

In Stalingrad, Wehrmacht and its auxiliary forces from the Axis lost 1/4 of all troops deployed by the Reich on the Eastern front. Total enemy losses amount to ~1.5 million soldiers and officers.

From that moment forward the strategic initiative was on the side of the Red Army. The Victory in Stalingrad created favourable conditions for further full-scale counteroffensive of Soviet forces to expel the enemy from the Nazi-occupied territory of the USSR.

🌐 The defeat of the bulk of the enemy troops not only shocked the world and significantly raised the international prestige of the Soviet Union and its Armed Forces, but also contributed to the strengthening and tightening of the anti-Hitler coalition.

🎖 Victory in the Battle of Stalingrad was in large achieved through superior strategy and tactics, but also due to mass heroism of Soviet soldiers, officers and hard work of all those on the home front. 112 participants of the Battle were awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union.

Statement by a Russian representative during the review of the national report of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the 48th session of the UN Human Rights Council Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review:

📍 January 29, 2025, Geneva

🇧🇦 We are seriously concerned over the negative trends observed in the development of the human rights situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We note a blatant violation of the fundamental rights of the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina, enshrined in the General Framework (Dayton) Agreement for Peace of 1995 and its annexes.

❌ We consider it unacceptable that the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina are effectively deprived of the right to independently govern their own state, determine their own fate, and build their own future. Despite the existence of a well-developed system of democratically elected authorities, final decisions that cannot be appealed in any instance in the world are unilaterally made by Mr. Christian Schmidt, a German citizen who positions himself as the High Representative under the Dayton Agreement. Meanwhile, the UN Security Council has never adopted any corresponding resolution, which deprives Mr. Schmidt of even the slightest international legal legitimacy.

❗️ We call on the members of the Working Group and the UN Human Rights Council as a whole to reflect on what is happening before our eyes in Bosnia and Herzegovina: a European state in the 21st century is effectively ruled by a foreign appointee with the support of a group of Western countries, while the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issues verdicts with the votes of three foreign judges. What is this, if not an example of neocolonial policy in its worst form?

What kind of human rights can be discussed when foreigners dictate to the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for example, on which dates they should or should not celebrate their holidays, how to form executive authorities, how to conduct elections, and decide on matters of property ownership and similar issues?

👉 The international community must not turn a blind eye to these blatant violations of human rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina. We firmly believe that the first step should be the abolition of the external protectorate regime and the creation of conditions that enable the peoples of Bosnia and Herzegovina to engage in mutual dialogue without external interference.

✉️ President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants and guests of the memorial ceremony commemorating International Holocaust Remembrance Day and marking the 80th anniversary of the liberation of prisoners from the Auschwitz-Birkenau (Oswiecim) concentration camp by the Red Army (January 27, 2025)

The message reads, in part:

✍️ International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a sorrowful date, profound moral and humanitarian significance. In January 1945, the Red Army liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp, unveiling to the world the horrifying truth of the atrocities committed by the Nazis and their collaborators, who annihilated millions of Jews, Russians, Roma, and people of many other nationalities.

❗️ We will always honour the memory of the Soviet soldiers who defeated this horrific, all-encompassing evil and secured a Victory whose magnitude will forever be etched in the annals of world history.

The citizens of Russia are the direct descendants and heirs of the victorious generation. We will steadfastly and resolutely oppose any attempts to alter the legal and moral judgment passed on the Nazi executioners and their collaborators. We are committed to protecting the rights of individuals to their ethnic, linguistic, and spiritual identity, while actively fighting against the spread of anti-Semitism, Russophobia, and other forms of racist ideologies.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all those who remain dedicated to preserving historical truth and combatting neo-Nazi revanchism. Their contributions, driven by a deep sense of purpose, play a crucial role in this significant work, which is especially important in the year marking the 80th Anniversary of the Great Victory.

I hope that the Russian Jewish community and the organisers of the traditional memorial events for International Holocaust Remembrance Day will continue their multifaceted efforts to promote the values of humanism, harmony, and civil peace

🎙 Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova’s comment on yet another barbaric crime by the Kiev regime against Russian civilian population

💬 On February 8, the Kiev junta once again demonstrated its inhuman Nazi nature by committing yet another cynical bloody crime.

The Ukrainian armed forces purposefully attacked a densely populated area of the city of Makeyevka in the Donetsk People's Republic of the Russian Federation. The victims of the pre-planned and carefully prepared shelling of the city's central part were civilians, including women and children.

We strongly condemn this criminal act of terrorism. The Western curators of the Kiev regime, who regularly incite current Ukrainian authorities to commit bloody crimes, were directly involved in its organisation. Responsibility for this act lies not only with Ukrainian neo-Nazis but also with the ruling circles of Western countries, which stubbornly and irresponsibly continue to pump the Ukrainian armed forces with weapons.

The shelling of populated areas in Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions, Crimea and other Russian regions, merciless and indiscriminate killings of civilians show the agony of the Zelensky regime, mired in terrorism, lawlessness, corruption and cynicism, which is seeking to kill as many Russian people as possible to please its Western masters.

☝️ We call on all responsible governments and relevant international organisations to condemn yet another terrorist attack. Keeping silent in response to the barbarity of the Ukrainian Nazis is tantamount to complicity in their bloody acts.
❗️ On February 4, in the Vasilyevsky municipal district of the Zaporozhye region, the Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a deliberate drone strike on a school bus transporting 20 children.

💬 Russian Ministry of Health:

▪️ As a result of the attack on a school bus in the Zaporozhye region by Ukrainian neo-Nazis, 6 people were injured, including 5 children. All of them have been hospitalized. The bus driver is in serious condition, while five children are in moderate condition.

▪️ The Federal Center for Disaster Medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health is coordinating medical assistance for the victims.

💬 Rodion Miroshnik, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry on crimes of the Kiev regime:

▪️ This is a cynical terrorist act aimed at the most precious – our children.

▪️ The neo-Nazi operating the AFU drone undoubtedly saw and understood that he was striking a school bus carrying children. This is a war crime for which the inhuman enemy, who has disregarded all civilized norms, will have to answer.

💬 Maria Zakharova, Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry:

▪️ Will international organizations and human rights groups, including those specializing in child protection, once again resort to “strategic silence”?

⚡️ On 1 February, the Armed Forces of Ukraine committed another war crime by launching a targeted missile strike on a boarding school in Sudzha.

The launch of enemy missiles from Sumy region was detected by Russian air defence systems.

This provocation is aimed at diverting global public opinion from the atrocities the Kiev regime committed in Russkoye Porechnoye, Kursk region.

The AFU attack on the civilian facility once again demonstrated the terrorist and inhuman nature of those in power in Kiev.

🌟 #OnThisDay 8️⃣0️⃣ years ago, on January 27, 1945, Auschwitz-Birkenau (Oswiecim, was located in Nazi-occupied Poland) — the most terrifying German extermination camp in #WWII — was liberated by the Red Army’s 1st Ukrainian Front during the Vistula–Oder offensive operation.

#Auschwitz was created by the Nazis in 1940 in a building that used to serve as military barracks near a small town called Oswiecim, whose history dates back to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Having occupied Poland in 1939, the Nazis changed the town's name of Oswiecim to German Auschwitz. Later, in 1941-1943, two more imprisonment facilities were established in the vicinity of Oswiecim. They were:

▪️Auschwitz II — best known to the wider public as #AuschwitzBirkenau, was three kilometres away from the main facility — Oswiecim and located near Brzezinka, a Polish village (Birkenau in German). Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest "death factory". Equipped with crematoriums and gas chambers, it was created by the Nazis with only one aim — exterminate people.

▪️Auschwitz III (also known as Monowitz). Its prisoners were used by the Nazis for the Third Reich war industries.

Following the so-called Wannsee Conference in 1942, the Nazis approved what was called the “final solution to the Jewish question”. Since then, Auschwitz-Birkenau was turned into the main "death factory" for the annihilation of Jews in Europe.

❗️ Prisoners of Oswiecim were held by the Nazis in inhuman, barbaric conditions. They had to do hard, exhausting work until total exhaustion, to endure poor sanitation in the camp's facilities, malnutrition and constant tortures by the guards and SS-troops. It was in Oswiecim that the Germans first tested the "Zyklon-B" poisonous agent on human beings. Prisoners of Auschwitz were also subjected to cruel medical experiments, led by a Nazi criminal, infamous retired military doctor Josef Mengele.

In 1944, when the Red Army started the liberation of Europe, the Nazis, in an effort to cover the tracks of their crimes in Auschwitz, rushed to burn documents and destroy the camp's gas chambers, crematoriums, and deported as many prisoners as they could westward to other concentration camps deep in the Third Reich — over 58,000 prisoners were evacuated by the Nazis before Oswiecim and liberated by the Soviet forces in January, 1945.

***

In January 1945, the units of the 1st Ukrainian Front launched the Vistula-Oder offensive and, successfully expelling the Nazis from Poland, finally reached Auschwitz.

⚔️ In the late hours of January 27, following three days of fighting the retreating enemy, the Red Army took over Oswiecim and opened the gates of Auschwitz. The camp’s 7,000 prisoners were freed. Most of them were sick or suffering from extreme exhaustion and tortures.

Rescued prisoners burst into tears of joy when they greeted their liberators. Some facilities of the camp were instantly made a hospital. According to various historic estimates, in 1940-1945, from 1.5 to 4 million people perished in Auschwitz-Birkenau.

Over the past years, we are witnessing a campaign in several European countries, including Poland, to rewrite and falsify the history of WWII and, in particular, to erase the memory of the feat performed by the Soviet soldiers-liberators who saved the Auschwitz prisoners.

🎙 From a briefing by Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on topical foreign policy issues (January 23, 2025):

💬 "This year, like all those years before, Russian representatives will not be invited to the commemoration ceremonies at Auschwitz-Birkenau on January 27. That is, there will be no one there to mention the Soviet liberator soldiers and express gratitude to them. In this regard, there is something that needs to be said to the organisers and all the Europeans who will be there:

Your lives, your work and leisure, the very existence of your nations, your children have been paid for by Soviet soldiers, their lives, their blood. It was them who crushed the Third Reich machine. You are forever in their debt."
