Benito Mussolini's father, Alessandro Mussolini, was associated with Mikhail Bakunin's Anarchist International in Italy during the 1870s. The anti-fascist historian Gaetano Salvemini observed that Mussolini's early socialist leanings were closer to anarchism than to Marxism. Mussolini's ideology, which also incorporated elements of revolutionary syndicalism, was deeply influenced by Georges Sorel's advocacy for revolutionary violence instead of the historical determinism of Marxism.

“I am being sent to prison.
I have received the sentence from the court. I have been condemned to a year of prison and a fine of six Euros per day during six months.
I must say that I DO NOT REGRET what I have done, and I shall do it again because I see that Spain is dying and someone has to fight for saving the Fatherland from death.
At least for putting the danger into the Conscience of every one, for denouncing the situation, for giving voice to the suffering of a nation that is sunk into a complete and absolute failure.
A nation whose own rulers send to 'trial' and condemn those of us who are sacrificing our lives for saving what is left of the name of Spain.
(To the 'judges'):
In a year of prison you will not manage to separate me from my aims. I shall continue my fight, I shall do all that I can for saving my country first from yourselves, and second from the (Third World) foreign enemies who come every day to destroy us.

The national socialists or fascists and libertarians are often seen to be the most antagonistic of all ideological positions, yet we see libertarians and fascists intermingling more and more in recent times. There is even a prevalent notion that libertarians are specifically prone to becoming fascists. This means that there must be something that could drive a person who used to believe in propertarian freedom to move towards an ultranationalist position with no seeming regard for any freedom at all. I would like to propose that when it comes to premises, a lot of national socialists and libertarians share the same principles and ideas, which allow for a substitution of one ideology by the other without a significant change in perspective.
