Following reports last year about ongoing discussions between the United States, Israel, and Ukraine about the transfer of several recently retired MIM-104 “Patriot” Surface-to-Air Missile Batteries to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The New York Times is now reporting that at least one of the “Patriot” Systems from Israel is being refurbished in the U.S. and will soon be transferred to Ukraine, while allies are discussing the transfer of another battery from either Germany or Greece. Confusion and contradictions from the Trump administration during the ongoing nuclear talks between the United States and Iran continues, with U.S. President Trump stating during an interview released today with Meet the Press, that he will only accept the “total dismantlement” of Iran’s nuclear program, before adding, “I want Iran to be really successful, really great, really fantastic. The only thing they can't have is a nuclear weapon. If they want to be successful, that's okay. I want them to be so successful.” This call for total disarmament is in stark contrast to what Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other senior admin officials have been regularly stating, which is that Iran will be able to maintain a nuclear energy program in a future deal, only really seeking to limit Iran’s production and storage of long-range ballistic missiles as well as enriched uranium beyond 60%.
