💡 What is Tuberculosis (TB)?
Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It primarily attacks the lungs but can also spread to other organs. TB spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks, releasing tiny droplets containing the bacteria.
⚠️Why is TB a Global Concern?
In 2020, TB was the second deadliest infectious disease after COVID-19, killing ~1.5 million people worldwide. Despite being preventable and curable, it remains a major public health challenge.
🔍 Did You Know?
- 1 in 4 people worldwide carries latent TB (the inactive form).
- Only 5-10% of them will develop active TB in their lifetime.
- People with weakened immune systems (e.g., HIV/AIDS, diabetes) are at higher risk.
