8/33 little Friggs completed!
I decided to make them smaller than my prototype or I’d take up my whole luggage allowance with these little ladies.
I’m currently trying to decide if I should make all 33 Frigg (which was my initial plan) or if I should make a few different Goddesses.
Each one will have a rune pulled for her and that rune painted (or burnt) on her underside.
Then will be left as offerings/given as gifts throughout my travels.

Whilst not a carving, definitely carving related!
I’d been complaining for a while that I needed to find a good storage option for my tools. Given my workshop doubles as a feed shed for the livestock, we do get mice on occasion and I didn’t want my tools left out where they could be used by those pesky little sneaks (I don’t reckon they’d bother sharpening them after use).
As it was my birthday, my husband decided to put an end to my complaining and built me this awesome drawer to keep my tools safe and out of mice paws.
I’m over the moon!

Freyja
Freyja was the first deity I felt a connection with, due to this I’ve been quite daunted to create a carving of her, I was scared I couldn’t do her justice so I kept putting it off.
I asked @TheWessexNomad what goddess he felt connected with the most as I wanted to gift him a carving, when he said Freyja, I almost made him change his mind, but decided it was time to attempt her!
I knew instantly I wanted to include her falcon feathered cloak (fjaðrhamr) and amber necklace (Brísingamen).
I actually enjoyed adding each tiny feather and I really like how it turned out!

Sif and her golden hair
One of my favourite stories and maybe one of the most important as it tells how the treasures came to the Gods.
When I decided to create Sifs likeness, I knew she had to have her signature golden hair.
It was my first time using gold leaf and I love that it’s made her instantly recognisable.
However, I’m still unsure if I really like the result (possibly just because it does look so different to my usual Goddesses!)

Frigg and Saga
Throwback to May 23 and my first ever whittling project.
I’d brought a cheap set of knifes and some basswood blocks months before but hadn’t found the courage to actually give it a go.
At the time I was in the AFA, and the ladies group had a project to create the likeness of Saga and Frigg in whatever medium we wanted.
I decided this was the perfect opportunity to try whittling and I instantly fell in love with it!

A few months back, I committed to carving out (pun intended) 10 minutes a day for woodwork, at the time it was feeling impossible to find enough time to get anything done.
I decided to attempt a face, something I don’t do often.
And this chap emerged within a week.
He makes me quite happy to look at and he now resides at the edge of my workbench, overlooking my projects. However, I get the feeling he’s constantly muttering under his breathe about how I’m doing it all wrong 😂

I didn’t take any photos of the completed Eir before sending her off to a good friend in England.
