The word alchemy is believed to stem from PIE *ǵʰew- meaning "to pour." Germanic language did not form words from the root form *ǵʰew- but rather from an extension of it *ǵʰewd- which holds the same meaning. In Germanic we have the PIE root yielding words such as:

• Old English - ġēotan = "to pour, shed blood/tears/sweat, cast metals."
• Old Norse - gjóta = "to pour, to cast, to spawn."

What is most fascinating is that the Odinic name Gautr is derived from gjóta and yields the meaning "He from Whom Man Pours Forth." In this station He is the Divine Progenitor outwardly viewed as Gaut of the Gautar (Goths) and indeed to a great extent they are viewed as the fountainhead of our Folk with their name even being used to refer to an exceptional warrior "the brave Goth of the sword, sent his enemies to Hel."

I also find the correlation between Gautr and alchemy fascinating in the sense that indeed He is a practitioner of that inner alchemical work many recognize today as can be glimpsed in the Hávamál.

My family is currently sick at the moment and will be doing something more simple tomorrow, but nonetheless this is truly a time to be happy, appreciate what we have, and share it with the ones we love. The Jólnar (Gods) are truly great and beneficent to bless us with all we have and I am particularly thankful for my loving wife and my smart and handsome children. I don't have a lot of money or other things like that, but I have a loyal and loving family with a great relationship and that means the world to me. So, this Yule I thank Jólnir and all the Jólnar for that most valuable part of my life, and humbly ask for the continuance of this blessed thing and the means to further develop myself in order to best move forward in honor of the Gods, the Elves, my family, my Folk, and myself.

Our Forebears knew that life was not finite, they knew that while the body decays the und/athem (soul) is infinite and never dies. They also understood the relation between spirit-matter and thus valued life without need for extremes (be it strict asceticism or material overindulgence) and so lived a balanced life (at best). Because of all of this they placed high value on the family unit and folk unit, and ensured to leave things proper for their descendants (they knew that they would reap as descendants what they sowed as forebears).

Part 3 - Form and Stave Symbolism Further Study

The form - ᛯ - is found to be one of the most ancient of forms as well as one of the most widely spread (across various traditions). We see it used in various lands to denote the weapon of the God of Divine Strength, keeping the order of all with that weapon, and/or otherwise Divine Power itself.

The weapon is associated with that highest form of power - lightning and thunder. It stands with the foremost form - ᛯ - denoting the same root as the staves of the Futharks - ᛘ actor expressing energy/power | ᛦ energy/power deeply rooted; otherwise more simply put as the conduit through which Divine Power can pass from the potential to the actual expression. The weapon is fearsome, able to eradicate anything the God wishes, and it works to maintain order and sustain the God's will often without use, but merely through its existence being known (it drives fear in the hearts of all).

The form of the weapon is found at times varying between - ᛘ I ᛯ X - detailing the connection between the actor and that power which is harnessed and used by the actor if necessary to ensure order is upheld and wickedness (chaos) destroyed.

We can also see it pictured without direct reference to a God, as pictured by the Germanic "dancing warriors," above. In this case we can understand that the meaning is truly the same, but is to be understood as man mirroring the Divine motif and himself wielding power for the sake of the Divine Will.

In later use, it is found as the scepter of the monarch in the form - I - harkening back to the same symbol; [Divine] Power accessed and expressed by the actor (God or King) and calling to mind the monarch's (or God's) Divine right to rule.
