Apple plans to shift the production of all iPhones sold in the United States to India by next year, as sources indicate that President Donald Trump’s trade policies are driving the company to reduce its reliance on China.

According to The Financial Times, Apple aims to double its iPhone production in India, marking a significant pivot after nearly two decades of investing heavily in Chinese manufacturing. This move comes as Beijing faces aggressive tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, prompting Apple to diversify its supply chain.

Iran’s state television, citing Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, reported that Tehran is set to sign a $4 billion agreement with Russian companies to develop seven oil fields.

On April 24, Paknejad arrived in Moscow to attend the 18th meeting of the Iran-Russia Joint Economic Cooperation Commission.

This meeting comes in the wake of deepening ties between the two countries, marked by the signing of a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in January 2024 and Iran’s parliamentary approval of a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union in February 2024.

The meeting aimed to expand collaboration between Iran and Russia, focusing on ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple working groups.
US President Donald Trump posted a spoof image of himself dressed as the pope on Friday via his Truth Social platform, shortly after joking with reporters that he would like to become the next Catholic pontiff.

The image, which appears to be AI-generated, shows Trump in traditional papal regalia, including white robes, a gold crucifix pendant, and a miter, with his right index finger raised toward the sky.

The post quickly circulated online and followed Trump's offhand remark earlier in the week, expressing interest in the papacy, a position he acknowledged jokingly.

Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged small gunfire overnight along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir, escalating tensions after a deadly shooting at a Pahalgam resort.

India accused Pakistan of initiating the attack, which was met with a swift response from Indian forces, though no casualties were reported. The UN has called for both countries to exercise restraint amid the rising conflict.

Relations between India and Pakistan have deteriorated to their lowest point in years following the deadly shooting in Kashmir.

In discussions with envoys from 25 countries, India’s Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, claimed New Delhi had "clear evidence of cross-border complicity" in the attack, and Indian police identified two of the three fugitive assailants as Pakistani nationals.

The escalating tensions have led India to suspend its water-sharing treaty, while Islamabad warned that any attempt by India to halt the water supply would be considered an "act of war."

On the matter of territory, the US would provide "de jure recognition of Russian control of Crimea," while offering de facto recognition of Russian control over Lugansk and "Russian-controlled parts" in Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Kherson.

Ukraine, in turn, would regain control of parts of Kharkiv Oblast, the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, administered under US control with electricity shared between both sides, alongside the Kakhovka Dam, and enjoy unhindered navigation along the Dnieper River as well as control over the Kinburn Spit.

Economically, the document states that the US and Ukraine would enter into an economic and minerals cooperation agreement. Ukraine would receive full reconstruction support and financial compensation. In exchange, all sanctions imposed on Russia since 2014 due to the conflict would be lifted, and US-Russia cooperation would resume in the energy and industrial sectors.
Russia and Washington appear to be progressing toward finalizing an agreement to end the Ukraine conflict, said Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov in an interview with CBS News on Thursday.

“Well, the President of the United States believes, and I think rightly so, that we are moving in the right direction,” Lavrov said in the interview, adding, "The statement by the president mentions a deal, and we are ready to reach a deal. But there are still some specific points, elements of this deal which need to be fine-tuned, and we are busy with this exact process.”

Although Lavrov reiterated Russia’s willingness to reach an agreement, he avoided sharing details about the proposed deal by pointing to the need for confidentiality, “The President of the United States did not spell out the elements of the deal, so it is not appropriate for me to do this,” Lavrov said.

The New York Times (NYT) reported on Saturday that the Trump administration on Friday requested the Supreme Court to permit members of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to access sensitive records maintained by the Social Security Administration.

The administration argues that current restrictions imposed by a federal district court obstruct critical efforts to modernize government systems and reduce waste.

“This emergency application,” wrote Solicitor General D. John Sauer, “presents a now-familiar theme: a district court has issued sweeping injunctive relief without legal authority to do so, in ways that inflict ongoing, irreparable harm on urgent federal priorities and stymie the executive branch’s functions.”

New details have emerged regarding the killing of 15 Palestinian medics and rescue workers by Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip last month, with proof purportedly contradicting the Israeli occupation forces' claim that soldiers did not fire indiscriminately at the medical personnel.

Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported Wednesday that its review of IOF materials from an internal investigation challenges the military’s assertion that its soldiers did not fire indiscriminately at Palestinian ambulances and a fire truck in the early hours of March 23.

According to Haaretz, soldiers fired at the vehicles continuously for three and a half minutes at close range, despite clear efforts by aid workers to identify themselves.

China has granted exemptions on US imports from its 125% tariff, and is asking businesses to identify eligible goods in an apparent attempt to ease the economic impact of the US-China trade war.

As a result, the US dollar has risen slightly, and equity markets in Hong Kong and Japan have gained.

A task force from China's Ministry of Commerce is gathering potential items for tariff exemptions and requesting companies to provide their own submissions, according to a source familiar with the effort.

This move follows a shift in tone from Washington, where officials are said to be evaluating a significant tariff cut on Chinese imports, possibly scaling back duties to somewhere between 50% and 65%. Washington has acknowledged that the trade stand-off with China is economically unsustainable and has already offered tariff exemptions on certain electronic goods.

Reuters has obtained the full text of proposals aimed at ending the war in Ukraine, presented by US envoy Steve Witkoff to European officials during talks in Paris on April 17. The news agency stated that the document was published in full, without any alterations.

According to the text shared by Reuters, the proposals represent the final offer from the United States to both parties. On the ceasefire, the document calls for a permanent ceasefire, with both sides immediately engaging in technical implementation negotiations

Regarding Ukraine’s security, the proposals outline that Ukraine would receive a robust guarantee backed by an ad hoc coalition of European states, along with willing non-European partners. Ukraine would agree not to seek NATO membership but may continue its pursuit of EU membership.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reportedly had an unsecured internet connection in his Pentagon office to access the Signal messaging app on a personal computer, according to the Associated Press, citing two sources familiar with the matter.

The setup of this so-called “dirty” internet line, which bypassed Pentagon security protocols, has raised serious concerns over a potential Pentagon security breach. The revelation adds to growing scrutiny surrounding Hegseth's Signal app use, especially after reports that he shared sensitive military information in private chats.

The line, known in IT circles as a “dirty” connection, is linked directly to the public internet. Unlike the Pentagon’s secured systems, this type of connection lacks strict filters and safeguards, thereby exposing users to hacking and surveillance.

In a statement today, Nancy Faeser, the Interior Minister of Germany, accused The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party of being a threat to German democracy.

The statement was Faeser's comment on the party being designated as 'right-wing extremist' by Germany's Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. The Office attributed this decision to the party's xenophobic rhetoric on ethnicity, which is deemed discriminatory against non-ethnic Germans.

In the February 23, 2025 federal election, the AfD achieved a large breakthrough, securing 20.8% of the vote and 152 seats in the Bundestag (the German parliament). With this result, the AfD became Germany's second-largest party behind the conservative CDU/CSU alliance, which won 28.6% of the vote.

Faeser is not the only senior German official to call out the AfD, as the chancellor, the president, and foreign minister have all previously criticised the party's stances.
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) announced on Sunday that its flour supplies in the Gaza Strip have completely run out amid the ongoing, intensified Israeli siege and the continued blockade of humanitarian aid.

In a post on X, UNRWA confirmed that its flour stock had been depleted for days, adding that the World Food Programme also reported on April 25 that its food stocks in Gaza were entirely exhausted.

The UN agency highlighted that nearly 3,000 trucks carrying life-saving aid are still waiting for permission to enter Gaza, as the Israeli occupation continues to block the passage of humanitarian shipments through closed crossings since March 2.

In an interview for Time conducted on Tuesday and published Friday, Trump did not specify when Xi allegedly called or the details of their conversation, only saying he himself would not initiate contact.

"He's called. And I don't think that's a sign of weakness on his behalf," Trump indicated.

Prior to their publication, the Chinese foreign ministry had urged Washington to stop “misleading the public” about the status of bilateral tariff discussions, a sentiment echoed by the Chinese Embassy in Washington.

In the interview, Trump discussed additional topics like the ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, the ceasefire in Gaza, and domestic issues in the United States.

The United States is preparing a major arms deal with Saudi Arabia, valued at over $100 billion, according to six sources cited by Reuters. The US-Saudi arms deal is expected to be formally announced during President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to the Kingdom in May.

This proposed agreement follows failed efforts by the Biden administration to secure a similar defense pact. Under Biden, Washington attempted to tie advanced weapons sales to Saudi Arabia halting Chinese arms purchases and limiting Beijing’s investments. It remains unclear whether the Trump administration’s current offer includes such conditions.

A US defense official told Reuters, “Our defense relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is stronger than ever under President Trump's leadership. Maintaining our security cooperation remains an important component of this partnership, and we will continue to work with Saudi Arabia to address their defense needs.”
