The Lord's Prayer is a Christian prayer that appears in the New Testament. It's believed that Jesus taught it to his disciples, and is a model for Christian prayer. It includes asking God for blessings, daily needs, and forgiveness. It also asks for strength to resist temptation and protection from danger.

The Lord's Prayer appears in the Gospel of Luke in a shorter version and in the Gospel of Matthew in a longer version

The Lord's Prayer appears in the Bible in two places:
Matthew 6:9–13 and Luke 11:2–4.

The longer version is in Matthew, and the shorter version is in Luke.
Matthew 6:9–13

The longer version of the Lord's Prayer is in Matthew 6:9–13.

This version is part of the Sermon on the Mount, which is in Matthew 5:1–7:29.

In this section, Jesus teaches his followers how to be pious and do right when engaging in common religious practices.
Luke 11:2–4
The shorter version of the Lord's Prayer is in Luke 11:2–4.

The Matthew and Luke versions are similar, but there are some differences.

For example, Luke omits "Your will be done" and "Deliver us from evil".

The Lord's Prayer is a prayer that Jesus taught his disciples when they asked him how to pray.

It is used in every Christian tradition, and most Christians know it by heart.

The Catholic version of the Lord's Prayer doesn't always include the last line because it's not present in all ancient Greek texts.

The line is called the "doxology" and is "for Thine is the Kingdom".

Explanation ...

The traditional version of the Lord's Prayer was used for many centuries.

The doxology was added to the Lord's Prayer in some ancient Greek texts.

The doxology was added to the Roman Catholic Mass after the Second Vatican Council.

The doxology was adopted by the Church of England after it broke away from the Catholic Church.

Other differences...

The original prayer was written in Greek, and some translations changed the word "trespasses" to "debt".

The Byzantine texts have the longer ending, but the Alexandrian texts do not.

Some Bibles added the doxology to Matthew's Lord's prayer, while others did not.

Conclusion...

The differences in the Lord's Prayer between Christian denominations are not significant, and all Christians can pray the prayer Jesus taught.

A doxology in the Bible is a short prayer or hymn that praises God.

Doxologies can be found in the Apostolic Letters, the Book of Revelation, and the New Testament.

Examples of doxologies in the Bible...

Gloria in Excelsis:

Also known as...
"the greater doxology"

Luke 2:14:
Angels sing a doxology at Jesus' birth

Luke 19:38:
King Jesus has doxologies sung to him on the first Palm Sunday

Romans 11:36:
"To Him be glory forever. Amen"

1 Timothy 1:17:
"To the king eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen"

2 Peter 3:18:
"To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen"

Purpose of doxologies...

Doxologies are used to praise God and declare faith in the Trinity.

They can be used in public or private worship.

Related concepts...

The themes of doxologies are scriptural, including praising God for blessings, ascribing glory to God, and affirming the Trinity.

✨️Dwelling in the Bible✨️

In the Bible, "dwelling" means to live in or abide in a place, or to direct one's attention to something.

It can also mean to have a relationship with God.

~Psalm 27:4
"Dwell in the house of the Lord" and direct attention to the beauty of God

~Psalm 91:1
"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty"

~Psalm 90:1
"Lord you have been our Dwelling Place throughout all generations"

~Psalm 23:6
"Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever"

Believers can experience God as their dwelling place through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Jesus came to dwell among us so that we might live with God forever.

The Bible strongly condemns gossip, with verses in Proverbs

And other books warning against spreading secrets, stirring up strife, and damaging relationships through idle talk.

Here are some key verses on gossip:

~Proverbs 11:13:
"A gossip betrays a secret, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret."

~Proverbs 16:28:
"A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends."

~Proverbs 17:9:
"Whoever covers an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats a matter separates close friends."

~Proverbs 20:19:
"A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much."

~Proverbs 26:20:
"Without wood a fire goes out; without gossip a quarrel dies down."

~1 Timothy 5:13:
"And besides they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house, and not only idle but also gossips and busybodies, saying things which they ought not."

~Ephesians 4:29:
"Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear."

~James 4:11:
"Do not speak evil of one another, brothers."

~2 Corinthians 12:20:
"For I fear that perhaps when I come, I may find you not as I wish, and that you may find me not as you wish; that perhaps there may be quarreling, jealousy, anger, selfishness, slander, gossip, conceit, unrest."

~Psalm 34:13:
"Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit."

~Psalm 101:7:
"I will not tolerate a wicked person in my sight; I will not allow a traitor to stay near me."

Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus

Philippians 2:3-5
Gossip is a counterfeit form of intimacy that bonds people over brokenness rather than truth. But what does the Bible say about Gossip?

2 Corinthians 12:20 KJV
For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you as I would, and that I shall be found unto you as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults;

There's more to say about it in a post from Jim. 👇🏽 S. N.

Oh Father, our Abba, we lift up the lost in our circles of family and friends. You know them by name even if we do not speak them out loud for you know all things. Father you have the very hairs on our heads numbered and nothing is too great for you. Father we pray that your Holy Spirit would be at work watering the seeds that we have planted. There's nothing on this earth more important than their salvation. Please Father, use us when needed and help us to seek after those who are lost just as you sought each of us. Father may your Holy Spirit be at work in the background of their lives working all things out that will lead to their saving knowledge of your precious Son Jesus! Lord we know that this prayer is prayed in your will and that you will save them in your time. Help us Lord to be bold Esthers and Josephs and use us for such a time as this. Father may we glorify your most precious and holy name in all that we say and do this day. In Christ's mighty name I pray. Amen! ❤️
