Professor Luke O’Neill of Trinity College gave an interview to the Show Me the Science podcast a few days ago, praising the rise of “lab-grown” or “cultivated” meat, and predicting it would spell the end of animal farming in the future.
To emphasise the supposed need for this transition, the biochemist cited the widely-repeated cliché that farming animals produces 12% of the world’s carbon emissions:

Who Cares?
I constantly complain about how the sheep-folk don’t see the world falling apart around them. They don’t see the erosion of our freedom of speech rights, they don’t see children being coerced into medications and “gender-affirming” surgery, and they don’t see the unfairness in allowing men to compete in women’s sports.
They also obviously do not see the horrors of wars and of their government’s support of killing people in other countries. They don’t see dozens of other things as well: Big Pharma killing us all, the medical industry going haywire, education dumbing down our kids. They don’t see…...

Actually, “personal beliefs” DO supersede “the public good”
The above quote – taken from a headline in the Globe and Mail – is wrong. It is wrong in general and the specific.
It doesn’t matter what “personal beliefs” are being referred to, and it doesn’t matter which particular “public good” is being protected, it is wrong.
It is wrong because “personal belief” is a placeholder phrase for “individual liberty” and “public good” for compelled action.

Early this morning, the Pakistani government claimed the Indian military had launched missiles at several sites in Pakistan and the Pakistan-administered Kashmir region.

Yesterday we woke up to the news that huge areas of Spain and Portugal – as well as Andorra and some parts of southern France – were completely without power.
Major cities all across the Iberian Peninsula were impacted, including vital transport hubs. Trains, planes and automobiles were disrupted. Traffic signals, phone signals and internet signals were broken down.
There was a state of emergency and the now-cliche panic buying.
It’s slowly coming back online, but over 24 hours later there’s no official cause.
