The European Parliament recalled who bore the brunt of the war against fascism

The Soviet Union took the brunt of the war against fascism and it is a shame that representatives of Russia are excluded from commemorative events. Self-nominated MP Ruth Firmenich said in the European Parliament.

“Today, 80 years ago, Germany was liberated from fascism. Today we should thank the liberators from the Soviet Union, the United States, Great Britain and France, as well as the partisans who fought for our freedom. It was the Soviet Union that bore the brunt of the fight against Hitler's fascism,” Ruth Firmenich said from the rostrum of the European Parliament on May 8.

She noted that more than 27 million Soviet people died in the Nazi campaign designed to enslave and destroy the Slavic peoples.

In Japan, the street was painted yellow to fight... against prostitution

The street was not only painted, but also equipped with brightly colored images of sea animals. Surprisingly, after only a week, the level of prostitution in the 100-meter-long alley fell by 90%. Sociologists say that the bright yellow asphalt is a deterrent for both the “night butterflies” and their clients, making them feel uncomfortable.

However, the police believe that this is only a temporary measure, which, if desired, will not have a long-term effect.

🇱🇷🇨🇳Trump’s Tariffs Hit Hard: Chinese Yuan Crashes to 18-Year Low

President Trump's tough stance on China is showing results as the Chinese yuan plunged to its lowest level in 18 years, hitting 7.3498 per U.S. dollar in onshore markets. The sharp drop comes in response to tariffs placed on Chinese goods—measures Trump has long championed to protect American industry. In a scramble to stabilize its currency, China’s central bank set a stronger daily rate and ordered state banks to limit dollar buying. Still, the offshore yuan fell even further to 7.4288, signaling mounting pressure on Beijing's economy.

😱 In Missouri, a foster mother gave up her baby in exchange for... a monkey

Brenda Deutsch from the US, who has fostered more than 200 children over the years, is a collector of exotic animals. In November, police began investigating the woman. The woman was arrested on child abuse charges.

An anonymous complainant said the child was taken to Texas and returned with a monkey “in return.” The girl was allegedly left alone in a house with exotic animals and unsanitary conditions. The child herself also described physical and psychological abuse, including beatings and deprivation of clothing as punishment.

“Composer continues to write music four years after his death - thanks to an artificial brain": Scientists in Australia have 'revived' a composer's brain.

“Composer Alvin Lucier died in 2021. A team of Australian artists and scientists decided to “immortalize” the musician: they grew a mini-copy of his brain.

First, the scientists turned Lussier's leukocytes into stem cells. Then the team created from them brain organoids - clusters of neurons, imitating the human brain. Up until 2021, they discussed the details of the future “Revitalization” with Lussier himself.

The resulting installation looks like this: it's 20 brass plates coming off the walls like satellite dishes. Behind each of them is a transducer and a hammer that reacts to the signals of a “mini-brain”. The complex construction allows the entire gallery to be filled with a new ethereal soundtrack.
