Wow…the Main Directorate of Intelligence for the Ukrainian Armed Forces has released footage today showing an uncrewed surface vessel in the Black Sea, for the first time in history, using a surface-to-air missile to down a Su-30SM fighter aircraft with the Russian Naval Aviation. According to Russian channels, the shoot-down occurred yesterday roughly 30 miles to the west of Novorossiysk, with the drone believed to have utilized a variant of the R-73 air-to-air missile known as “Sea Dragon” to down the Su-30SM.

Reports of yet another long-range ballistic missile, the third in less than 24 hours, having been launched by the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen at Israel.
Despite the ongoing nuclear talks between the United States and Iran, which President Trump is claimed to have “blindsided” Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu with during a meeting last month at the White House. Senior Iranian security officials have told Reuters, that Tehran’s leadership remains deeply concerned that Netanyahu may launch a strike against nuclear and/or other sites in Iran - deal or no deal.

Israeli officials are said to so far be “unimpressed” with the negotiations, with the current terms being discussed including a limit on Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium and centrifuge types, as well as a requirement that Iran dilute, export or seal its uranium stockpile which has been enriched past 60% under unprecedented scrutiny from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In exchange, the U.S. has told negotiators during talks in Oman and Rome, that Iran will receive substantial sanctions relief.
Israeli airstrikes are underway tonight across Syria, with a focus on areas in and around Damascus and the wider southwestern Syria, with a number of military installations reported to have been targeted.
According to local sources, tonight’s U.S. airstrikes on the outskirts of Deir ez-Zor targeted equipment and positions in the vicinity of the Al-Omar Oil Field, left behind by the U.S-led Coalition during their recent drawdown of forces in Northeastern Syria.

For the second day in a row, the Israeli Air Force has downed a one-way attack drone “approaching from the east” likely launched by the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen.
After designating a 170-square-mile strip along the border between New Mexico and Mexico as a “National Defense Area” in April, allowing the U.S. military to temporarily detain illegal migrants or trespassers before being handed over to Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The U.S. Department of Defense this week established another “National Defense Area” in Southern Texas, consisting of a 63-mile-long strip running east from the border of New Mexico and Texas near El Paso. These designations follow an executive order signed last month by President Donald J. Trump, giving the Defense Department jurisdiction over the Roosevelt Reservation, a 60-foot-wide stretch of federal land that runs along the U.S-Mexico Border through New Mexico, Arizona, and California.
After a meeting of top U.S. and Japanese officials, both have agreed to start working-level consultations on trade according to a Treasury release. Yesterday, a Japanese delegation, led by Japan's Economic Revitalization Minister Ryosei Akazawa, met with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick for a second round of trade talks. While both U.S. and Japanese decision-makers have characterized the talks as productive, Japanese media outlets have reported that there are a number of points of contention, specifically tariffs on Japan's auto industry, a bulwark in their economy.
Ukraine has reportedly targeted the Kerch Strait Bridge and/or areas around it with drones tonight. Reports also indicate that as of right now, the bridge is closed to vehicle traffic. The strikes are part of a wider ongoing wave of Ukrainian strikes, continuing the trend of reciprocal waves of strikes from both Ukraine and Russia after the U.S. announced its scaled-back role as a peace broker between the two nations this week after previous efforts largely failed to produce results.
Police in Stuttgart, Germany have now said that 8 people were injured when an SUV hit a crowd today. 3 people have serious injuries. Police also confirmed that one person needed resuscitation. Additionally, in a subsequent statement, the police have said “there is currently no evidence of an attack or intentional act.”

Reports of several airstrikes by the U.S. Air Force in the last few minutes, against unknown targets on the outskirts of Deir ez-Zor in Northeastern Syria.
In addition to Fico and Vučić, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have also cancelled their trip to Moscow for the May 9th Victory Day Parade, citing rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Modi had originally been invited by Russian President Putin, but it was later decided that Defense Minister Singh would go in his stead; though both have now canceled, with the parade likely to be attended instead by Deputy Defense Minister Sanjay Seth.

In addition to today’s foreign military sale to Ukraine, the U.S. State Department also approved two other potential large sales to both Norway and Saudi Arabia:

- The sale to Norway, estimated at $370.9 million, is set to include 300 AIM-9X Block ll “Sidewinder” Air-to-Air Missiles, 2 AIM-9X Block II Special Training Missiles, 24 AIM-9X Block II Captive Training Missiles, 20 AIM-9X Block II Tactical Guidance Units, and 20 AIM-9X Block II CATM Guidance Units, along with associated equipment.

- While the sale to Saudi Arabia will reportedly include 1,000 AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and 50 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM Guidance Sections, along with associated parts, equipment, software and support, valued at $3.5 billion.

The Israel Defense Force has confirmed that fighter aircraft struck a military site, anti-aircraft guns, and surface-to-air missile infrastructure tonight in southwestern Syria, adding that the “IDF will continue to operate as necessary to defend Israeli civilians.”
The U.S. State Department today has approved the potential foreign military sale of F-16 training and sustainment, along with related equipment, to the government of Ukraine, in a deal worth an estimated $310.5 million. This is the first such deal between the United States and Ukraine, since President Trump took office in January.

Russian state media is reporting that both Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić have both fallen “suddenly ill” and will not longer be able to attend the Moscow Victory Day Parade on May 9th; with Vučić said to have suffered a serious illness during his visit this week to the United States, requiring him to return to Belgrade.
Air raid sirens now sounding in Central Israel, including the city of Jerusalem, following the launch of a long-range ballistic missile by the Houthis in Yemen.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth recently notified senior officials at the White House that additional authority at the U.S-Mexico Border, such as those provided under the Insurrection Act, were not needed at this time. This follows an executive order signed by President Trump on his first day in office, directing the Department of Defense and Homeland Security to decide whether it was necessary to declare the Insurrection Act of 1807 due to the ongoing “Border Crisis.”
According to Politico, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as national security advisor and secretary of state for up to 6 months, citing unnamed senior White House officials for the reports. Officials told Politico that Secretary Rubio has now been tasked with heading a significant "reorient" of the nation's National Security Council.
Citing unnamed U.S. officials, a number of news outlets are now reporting that the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) and the vessels in the wider carrier strike group (CSG) will stay in the CENTCOM area of responsibility for at least another week. The order for the deployment extension was signed late Thursday, according to The Times of Israel, and is meant to help maintain the current posture oriented towards operations against the Houthis in Yemen.
