Isabelle Kaiser also wrote about the following:
During World War I, approximately 8.5 million soldiers were taken as prisoners of war. Between 1916 and 1919, around 68,000 from both sides of the conflict, were interned in Switzerland. The Swiss government, along with the warring parties, funded their stay. The Bernese Oberland and Central Switzerland which I have featured in this Channel were key regions for their internment.
Interestingly, these prisoners were not only resting; they were also expected to work or study. Many stayed in empty hotels, a helpful source of income for the Swiss tourism industry, which had suffered. Many prisoners worked on land reclamation projects to expand farming areas due to food shortages during the war.
Switzerland’s role as a neutral country during WWI allowed for this unique situation, where interned soldiers were put to work, contributing to the local economy while also experiencing a temporary reprieve from the horrors of the frontlines.

Always look for something more to learn! Do not stay in your old patterns, repeating the same cycles... Break free and wake-up from the dream. Leave the comfort zone, keep changing your perspective.
