In February 2025, explosions occurred in the Mediterranean Sea on three tankers that had recently visited Russian ports - Reuters
The causes of the incidents have not yet been established, according to Reuters sources in the maritime industry and security services. It is noted that these are the first cases of explosions on civilian ships in the region in several decades.
On February 15, an explosion damaged the tanker Seajewel, operated by the Greek company Thenamaris, in the port of Savona in northern Italy.
Earlier, at the end of January, a similar incident occurred in the Turkish port of Ceyhan with the tanker Seacharm of the same company.
The third incident was recorded in Libya in February: the Grace Ferrum, a vessel owned by the Cypriot company Cymar and sailing under the Liberian flag, suffered serious damage, requiring a rescue operation.
According to ship tracking services, all three tankers have recently called at Russian ports.

US Senator Blumenthal on Trump's statements:
💬 "What world is he living in?"
"Not only does this contradict the facts and the truth, but it is an absolutely disgusting betrayal of a country that shed blood, fought and died for freedom. The president's capitulation is pathetic and weak."

Zelensky:
February 20 is the day when we remember and honor those who made their choice to be free, to build a strong, European Ukraine, not to put up with subjugation. They gave the most precious thing – their lives, so that we could live in a free state.
It was in these days of 2014 that Russia chose war – it began the first steps towards the occupation of Crimea. While people were being killed in Kyiv, and people were defending their freedom, Putin decided to strike another blow – a very mean one. Since then, the world has been living in a new reality, when Russia is trying to deceive everyone. And it is very important not to give in, to be together. It is very important to support those who defend freedom.
Eternal honor to the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred. Eternal gratitude to all our brave Ukrainians who fought for Ukraine and its independence.

🕯February 20 - this day has become a symbol of the Ukrainian people's struggle for freedom, dignity and a European future
It was on February 20, 2014, on Independence Square in Kyiv, that security forces shot protesters, participants in the Revolution of Dignity.
Among the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred were people of different ages and social status from different parts of the country, united by the desire for change and a better future for Ukraine.
Most of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred died from gunshot wounds during the violent dispersal of the protest on February 20, 2014, on Independence Square in Kyiv. However, there are also those who died from torture, kidnapping, and other circumstances related to the Revolution of Dignity.
This day is important for every Ukrainian, because it reminds us that freedom and dignity are the highest values worth fighting for.

Twenty European countries and Canada agreed in Paris to continue supporting Ukraine, DW reports.
Amid the changed US policy, partners of Ukraine stated they would continue to help Kyiv confront Russian aggression.
“We support Ukraine and will fulfill all our obligations to ensure peace and security in Europe,” French President Emmanuel Macron said on Wednesday, February 19, after an informal summit in Paris.
The meeting was attended by the heads of state and government of Lithuania, Finland, Cyprus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Latvia, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Slovenia, and the Czech Republic via video link.
In addition to Macron, the acting President of Romania, Ilie Bolozhan (pictured), and the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Luc Frieden, attended in person.
Macron stressed that Ukraine must always participate in efforts to achieve peace and that its rights must be respected. He added that it is necessary to consider the security concerns of European countries. Peace must be sustainable and accompanied by reliable and credible guarantees, the French president emphasized.
Macron and UK Prime Minister Starmer will be travelling to the US next week.

Trump says he's going to "resurrect" rare earth mineral deal with Ukraine despite it being rejected - CNN
President Donald Trump said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was treated “rather rudely” on a recent visit to Kyiv, where a rare earth mineral deal was rejected by Ukraine.
Trump said he’s going to resurrect the deal or things are not going to make Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “too happy,” again calling for elections in the nation that is operating under martial law.
“Scott Bessent actually went there and was treated rather rudely, because essentially, they told him no and Zelensky was sleeping and unavailable to meet him,” Trump said Wednesday night on Air Force One. “He traveled many hours on the train, which is a dangerous trip, and we’re talking about the secretary of the Treasury. He went there to get a document signed, and when he got there, he came back empty. They wouldn’t sign the document.”
Asked if he could resurrect the deal, Trump said: “Yeah, I think I’m gonna resurrect that deal, you know, we’ll see what happens, but I’m gonna resurrect it or things are gonna not make him too happy. And look, it’s time for elections.”
Discussion:
The intention in Zelensky's victory plan was a mutually benefical agreement with security guarantees for Ukraine. A win-win opportunity where the US has an opportunity to make shared profits on its support for Ukraine and a way to obtain security for the people of Ukraine.
Trump instead sends Bessent to a country under attack by Russia to demand 50% of the mineral resources in exchange for essentially nothing, with an ultimatum to sign the deal in hours.
Trump plays the role of a sulking mercurial calling for Zelensky to be unseated by elections and as a bully suggest Zelensky had better sign it or he "will not be happy".
It is blindingly obvious that no leader of any country would sign a deal as it was put forward. In light of the last days developments, it can be seen as part of a deliberate attempt to find reasons to discredit Ukraine and justify why the country should be abandoned to russia.
Only Putin walks away as the winner from Trump's actions. Coupled with the russian propaganda rhetoric that Trump is spouting, that would seem the intention of Trump.

US INTELLIGENCE & CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATORS: PUTIN IS ONLY GOING THROUGH THE MOTIONS
After analysis the latest intelligence is that Putin is more about trying to peel the US away from Europe and Ukraine - an effort to disengage them from supporting the war.
There is no real sign that Putin wants any real peace, but he does want a ceasefire so that he can reorganise and rearm to continue the invasion later. ‘Fundamentally Russian policy requiring the full annexation of all of Ukraine- the maximalist approach - remains the ultimate goal. This has not changed’.
RUSSIA OFFERS UP INVESTMENT AS IT PANDERS TO AMERICAN GREED
The Russians are offering up joint projects in the arctic, the prospect of US oil majors investing preferentially in Russian oil extraction and refineries and a host of other opportunities- without offering a single concession on Ukraine.
They met before the formal talks and during them this has been their primary focus- in effect disconnecting the US from any reason to defend Ukraine or the west because its own profits would be at risk in a future conflict. They think profit motivates 47 and his backers more than anything else. It’s hard to disagree.
MASSIVE AID PACKAGE
S EU is looking at a massive aid package of $700 billion - to provide Ukraine with what it needs to win (at last) and boost western defence manufacturing. It would also increase employment opportunities as places like Germany face job losses in their automobile industries - 200,000 new jobs in Germany alone.
The Munich conference this past weekend was the wake up call that on top of last years warning, over what was to come, finally pushed even the reluctant nations over the edge into doing something.
The aim
In 2025 is to produce 2 million 155mm shells on top of the 1.8
Million from the Czech Initiative as industry is now producing greater volumes. German production has gone from zero to 50,000 per month and is increasing rapidly as just one example.
The aim this time is to win not just prevent defeat. Why it’s taken three years to get here is beyond me, but get here we have.

🇺🇸 CNN poll shows just 8% of Americans view Russia positively—on par with those who think the moon landing was fake. 61% see Russia as an enemy, and only 4% as a partner. Only 9% like Putin, with the same percentage believing the Earth is flat. 52% support Ukraine using U.S. weapons in Russia.

EU agrees new Russia sanctions package - Financial Times
Move takes aim at the country’s aluminium industry and further tightens restrictions on its oil exports.
EU capitals have agreed a fresh sanctions package against Russia, as Brussels vows to step up pressure on Moscow and support for Kyiv despite US-led negotiations to end the war in Ukraine.
The bloc’s 16th package of sanctions against Russia since it launched its full-scale war takes aim at the country’s aluminium industry and further tightens restrictions on its oil exports.
The sanctions target 13 more banks, 73 more so-called shadow fleet tankers used by Moscow to export crude oil, and a “phased-in” ban on EU countries buying certain types of Russian aluminium products, according to people briefed on its contents.
The package, which the people said was endorsed by ambassadors from all the EU’s 27 countries on Wednesday morning, also targets more individuals and companies deemed to be helping Russia prosecute its war against Ukraine.
Update:
The bloc's legal text has been revised to allow the blacklisting of owners and operators of "shadow fleet" vessels, including captains.
Formal adoption is expected on Monday when foreign affairs ministers meet in Brussels.
Separately, the EU has stated that it will continue with sanctions against russia regardless of any US changes to its sanctions against russia.
