The dogwoods' blossoming this year throughout our woods has been lovelier than I can express.
I think many have felt moved the same and this explains why there's a very old legend elevating the dogwood tree above any other.

An old poem —
In Jesus' time, the dogwood grew
To a stately size and a lovely hue.
'Twas strong and firm, its branches interwoven.
For the cross of Christ its timbers were chosen.
Seeing the distress at this use of their wood
Christ made a promise which still holds good:
"Never again shall the dogwood grow
Large enough to be used so.
Slender and twisted, it shall be
With blossoms like the cross for all to see.
As blood stains the petals marked in brown,
The blossom's center wears a thorny crown.
All who see it will remember Me

Do you know of "weather sticks"?
When and how our people started using Balsam Fir twigs as barometers, i.e. weather predicters, is lost to history. These sticks bend up with coming great weather, bend down when it's going to rain or snow, and go straight on a fair day.
This one was up on the shed when we got here (along with the folk painted old blade and saw). We had no idea what it was and noticed that it would change its bend from up, down, and straight ahead. A little research and we had the fun finding out what it was! I love everything about this little shed 🤍

Authenticating Olive Oil
Olive oil is targeted for counterfeiting because it's easy to do and olive oil is quite expensive. So, how to be more sure that what you're buying is the real deal?
1. Check the country of origin-- if more than one country is listed, pass on purchasing
2. Taste it -- it should have a grassy, peppery, or complex flavor. It should not be flavorless or flat.
3. Refrigerate a bit of it. Olive oil will partially solidify in the fridge.
We buy the pictured brand from Aldi. It passes the tests and we like it. It's about 10.00 a 16oz bottle in my area.

Detoxifying Life — Soap
Commercial soap, in short, will disrupt your hormones (which control just about everything in your body) and give you cancer.
Thankfully, it's easy to find bar soap that's naturally made. However, I've had a hard time finding liquid soap that we like. Well, I've found it! We've been using it for a couple of months and find it perfect. I'm also shocked at how cheap it is.
