🟨🗳⚡️ George “Gigi” Becali has forgiven George Simion and he now says he supports him again for president!
To show that he has had a change of heart, Becali announced he is postponing the lawsuit against the pro-Călin Georgescu/George Simion TV station, Realitatea Plus, whom he wanted to shut down through a lawsuit judged by the National Audiovisual Council (CNA).
The CNA however is split on postponing the verdict as Becali requested.
Mircea Toma, a media watch NGO-founder and political activist, is vehemently opposed to the CNA giving up on the request formulated by Becali arguing that the request cannot be retracted at this stage, saying its ”far too late”, but not all CNA members share this opinion.
This news is noteworthy because of the ties between Becali and Viorel Hrebenciuc, a senior social-democrat and Becali's longtime friend (more details about their friendship in this post). It means that PSD or at least a part of it, supports George Simion over Nicușor Dan in the 2nd round.

🟨❌🗳 The Action & Solidarity Party is hurrying to turn Maia Sandu into a dictator!
PAS is trying to pass through the Moldovan Parliament a new law which would expand the powers of the Supreme Security Council (CSS), a body chaired by the Moldovan president composed of the president's security and foreign advisors, the premier, key ministers, like justice, internal affairs, foreign affairs, finances, the army chief and the intel chief.
The CSS is a body which reunites only in times of emergency and its powers are limited because the CSS' acts are classified and cannot be appealed.
The changes PAS proposes for the CSS would make the refusal to carry out the orders of the CSS a felony charge meaning it will be always punished with prison time (!!). The CSS will also have the power to intervene in all areas of the Moldovan society, in the economy, energy, infrastructure, justice.
Because of the CSS' role as a crisis body, its meetings are secret. Because the CSS is comprised of several members, they cannot be held personally responsible for the decisions of the CSS.
This shouldn't be surprising if you've followed our channel. The Moldovan economy is in a terrible state and the Moldovans have gotten tired of PAS' excuses as to why the economy isn't improving.
According to a recent poll, PAS would only gain 45 seats in the new Parliament, down from the 63 seats it has today. For a majority, PAS would need 52 seats. The poll doesn't take into account the diaspora or the opinions of people in Transnistria, so PAS' score is potentially even lower.
PAS scheduled the parliamentary elections in late September, buying as much time as they can to hopefully bribe as many people as they can to lend them their trust once more but it won't be enough. So now they are preparing to rule for the next 4 years, through the CSS, by decree, without parliamentary control.

🇷🇴🗳⚡️— 🇷🇴📰 InPolitics | How Nicușor Dan's most ardent fans will bring George Simion victory!
@Wallachian_Gazette
Starting on Sunday night, in Nicușor Dan's camp, a deranged process which, paradoxically, is the best campaign George Simion could've hoped for! It is the hurriedness to announce an economic & social apocalypse if Simion is elected president. Dan's fans forgot that those who bring about doom are executed, and the people will proceed the same way, choosing those who are calm and optimistic. If the hysteria continues, the effect will be opposite and the beneficiary will be Simion and not Dan.
Since yesterday, politicians, journalists, influencers, other supporters of Nicușor Dan, speak of the coming of the end times: the currency has collapsed, the investors are fleeing, there won't be any money left for pensions and salaries, foreign banks will stop giving loans, credit rating agencies will drop the country into the junk category, the EU will freeze all funds, the EU will kick us out of Schengen etc. With their eyes gouging out and foaming mouths they insult "idiots" and "uneducated" people who voted for Simion even proposing to take away the right to vote for the diaspora.
If it took only 48 hours to reach this point, imagine what will happen on election day. The desperation and hysteria will be utterly insane. The problem is the people already know something bad is coming no matter what. Exaggerating the bad won't do any favours. In such circumstances, popular politicians are those who bring hope, who are calm and optimistic, not rabid hysterics.
Călin Georgescu kicked off his campaign last year with a similar message which showed itself to be the key to success. In general, he never spoke of hatred, of public executions like Crin Antonescu, or repression, revenge, lex talionis. He didn't speak about war, famine, poverty and isolation. He spoke about peace, coming together as a nation, faith in God, love, mothers, children, family and respect.
Georgescu pleaded for giving dignity back to Romania, he criticised the obedience to foreign organisations which he said were chipping away the sovereignty of the country: "The Romanian people have awoken! They don't want to be on their knees, they don't want to be invaded and they don't want to be humiliated". He promoted peace in a region stressing about the war in Ukraine. (...)
With a calm and soft spoken voice, employing nationalist and religious discourse he promoted a different message focused on family, land and faith proposing a new form of education centered on spirituality and not exposing children to sexual degeneracy.
Georgescu's messaging was appealing thanks to the mass corruption, arrogance and sheer contempt for the people which the PSD-PNL coalition has. Călin Georgescu rarely raised his voice or speak rapidly, he was always careful to remain calm and focused on the choice of words never showing any negative emotions. (...)
George Simion copied Călin Georgescu's discourse building a similar political campaign against the political establishment, for conservative values, for a Europe of sovereign nations, for peace in Ukraine and union with Moldova, never mentioning anything about an economic crisis.
The deranged campaign of his adversaries, who blame everything on him, can only incite anger in any reasonable human being. Did the currency crash because of Simion's victory or the late resignation of the premier coupled with the news of Romania's future bankruptcy? Romania being thrown into the junk category is because of Simion's potential failures or the fault of the previous government's ballooning deficit, rampant inflation, led by unelected leaders, a government who has been living for the past three years on loans?
To blame all of this on Simion is the perfect gift for him and will backfire terribly on Nicușor Dan, who already is in a difficult position as he has less supporters than Simion.

1 EUR = 5.03 RON officially.
Although a 0.06 cent increase from yesterday, the RON devaluing to the point where 1 EUR = ~5 RON is a new low. It is bad for those who have loans in EURs as they will be paying more, it will cause the price of imports to grow but it will earn more money for those who export abroad, especially the EU and if they pay in EURs

🇲🇩🗳🇲🇩 Moldovan premier, Dorin Recean, rejects the proposal made by the so-called "president" of Transnistria, to open up new voting sections in the breakaway region.
Recean said that the only way for Chișinău to open voting sections in Transnistria is when the separatists surrender and accept to reintegrate back into Moldova.
In other circumstances, Recean would have approved as allowing Transnistrians to vote in Moldovan elections would be a step in the reintegration of Transnistria, but when PAS is faced with outright extinction, bringing in more anti-PAS votes from Transnistria would be stupid.

🇷🇴📉⚠️ The Romanian leu (RON) continues to devalue!
The official exchange rate published by the National Bank (BNR) shows that the exchange rate between the EUR and the RON is at 5.09 RON for one EUR, when yesterday it was 5.03.
The EUR had jumped for Romanians over the 5 RON mark a long time ago. Currency exchanges were selling EURs at a 5.1 spot contract rate for long time. In the real estate market, where most landlords set the price of rents in EURs, the exchange rate reached 5.2 RON a 2 years ago. Now, the spot contract rate is expected to reach 5.3 RON in the coming weeks.
As to why the Romanian leu continues to devalue its quite simple: BNR is not spending any money to keep the exchange rate stable!
The results of the 1st round of the presidential elections indeed are responsible for the currency falling but it is more so because of the results forcing Marcel Ciolacu to resign. Ciolacu as the chief of the Romanian government and the most powerful man in the state, was the lynchpin, the glue holding everything together. Without him, there is no one else in charge to direct the BNR or punish it if it does whatever it wants.
Even though BNR is supposed to be an "independent" institution, its governor, Mugur Isărescu, has been leading the bank for the last 30+ years. One could say that is because he is really good as his job and he probably is or at least, there is no one else better than him, but Isărescu is also a politician and smart. He knows that he can last as chief of the BNR as long as he has political support and how does he get it? By doing whatever the premier/government wants.
For the past three years, the BNR spent copious amounts of money to keep the RON afloat. The RON should have went over the 0.2 EUR mark back in 2023 if it wasn't for Isărescu to spend billions to keep it afloat. The exchange rate on May 7th 2023 was 1 EUR = 4.95 RON and that was when Romania saw its biggest school teacher strike since 2004 which led to a political crisis as the PSD-PNL coalition planned for the then premier, Nicolae Ciucă, to step down and be replaced by Marcel Ciolacu.
So, in other words, if there is a reason as to why the currency is going down, is because of the BNR and their monetary policy. Its not the fault of George Simion or Nicușor Dan or anyone else. Its the BNR who let loose because they didn't have a reason to protect the premier anymore because the premier resigned.

🇷🇴🗳⚡️ Victor Ponta is launching a new political party!
In a message on Facebook, Ponta thanks the 1.24 million people who voted for him in the 1st round and that, wishing to capitalise on their support, he is announcing the political platform: "Romania first" which reunites PRO-România, a PSD offshoot created by Ponta in 2016 which is pretty much dead, the Republican Party, The Romanian Ecological Party & other volunteers.
Although he promised to support George Simion, Ponta invites Nicușor Dan and Simion for a debate to see which one is more aligned with his plan to solve the economic crisis Romania is facing, conditioning his support for either one on how they align with his plan.
At the end, Ponta calls on all members of the Social Democratic Party to leave PSD and join his political party.
Let's remember how back in 2009, two days after Traian Băsescu was reelected, general, Gabriel Oprea, created the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) which took away MPs from PSD, from the People's Party (PPDD) & others in order to give enough parliamentary support for Emil Boc's government, Emil Boc having been an ally of Băsescu.
Ponta's new party could be crucial in helping either George Simion or Nicușor Dan form a friendly government through a parliamentary majority.

🇪🇺❌🌹 The European People's Party (EPP) accuses the Social Democratic Party of Romania (PSD) of "not showing European commitment" by refusing to endorse Nicușor Dan!
@Wallachian_Gazette
The EPP Group denounces the Romanian Socialist Party's decision not to support the pro-European presidential candidate, Nicușor Dan, in the second round of the Romanian presidential election.
"The decision of the Social Democratic Party of Romania is simply unacceptable. I expect a clear commitment from them to back the only pro-European candidate. In the face of rising extremism across Europe, there is no room for political games,” declared Manfred Weber MEP, the Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament.
“Romania plays a pivotal role within the EU, particularly in safeguarding the European Union’s security, given its position on the border with Ukraine. An anti-European, populist, and extremist candidate such as George Simion, who has been banned from entering both Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, poses a threat not only to Romania’s security but also to that of the European Union as a whole,” said Siegfried Mureșan MEP, Vice-Chair of the EPP Group in the European Parliament.
“The EPP Group fully backs the decision of the EPP member parties, the National Liberal Party and the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania, to show their support for Nicușor Dan. A political party’s true commitment to Europe is shown through real decisions at important times like this, not just through statements or impressive wording in party documents,” concluded Weber and Mureșan.

🇲🇩⚖️🟨 Moldovan courts are examining again the interdiction placed by former president, Igor Dodon, on George Simion from entering the Republic of Moldova.
The interdiction was maintained by the allegedly, "pro-Romanian" president, Maia Sandu, who, based on the reports formulated by the Special Information Service (SIS) decided to upheld and extend Simion's ban.
The SIS considers George Simion a "threat" to the Moldovan state.
A decision from Moldovan courts will come on May 19th, a day after the 2nd round of the presidential elections.
Some sources credit George Simion with the popularisation of the slogan "Basarabia e România" [Bessarabia is Romania] which began being grafitti'd in Romania and Moldova in the early 2010s.
Simion has been kicked out of Moldova a total of three times, once in 2009 during the protests surrounding the 2009 Parliamentary elections which saw the pro-Russian government led by PCRM collapse and get replaced by a pro-Western one, a 2nd time in 2015 protesting against the lackluster response of Moldovan authorities to the Moldovan Bank Fraud scandal however both times, Simion was able to overturn the bans in Moldovan courts.
The last ban was handed over in 2018 when, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Union of Bessarabia with Romania, hundreds of mayors of villages and towns in Moldova were signing symbolic acts of union and acts of twinning/sistering with other towns and villages in Romania. The ban wasn't officially motivated then and neither was when Maia Sandu upheld it and extended it but we can guess why.
With a united Moldova and Romania, Maia Sandu won't be president any more and she'll go back on welfare.

🇷🇴🎉🇪🇺 Remember the ”Euromanifest” protest from March?
That pro-EU manifestation gathered about 7-8k people in Victory Square Bucharest, an embarrassing size for the crowd considering that Călin Georgescu gathered over 100k supporters in the same square, back in January with freezing temperatures and on a workday.
Well, on April 26th 2025, Euromanifest had its 2nd iteration this time with even LESS attendees! The manifestation was organised at University Square, a public square far smaller than Victory Square! About 100 people showed up to express their support for the European Union and their gratefulness for Romania's continued EU membership.
The event was highly publicised in the press ahead but even with the free press, very few people showed up. The same press who promoted this event is now calling George Simion all sorts of names and expects a massive turnaround for Nicușor Dan's odds.
