Some good news!

"The Court of Appeal has today ruled that legislation granting the police ‘almost unlimited powers’ to restrict protests was created unlawfully. Judges dismissed an appeal from the Government, finding in favour of human rights organisation Liberty.

Liberty welcomed the landmark ruling, saying that the case sets an important precedent that ‘Government ministers must respect the law, and cannot simply step outside it to do whatever they want.’

Liberty has called on the Government to accept the judgment, and to review every arrest that has been made under the law."

What foresight. This must explain why Israel ignored ICC from the start, mustn't it?

Heads-up: if you haven't yet heard of metagenomics, you're about to.

"The trouble with PCR is that you have to think of the viruses that might be causing an infection and do a separate test for each and every one," she says. "So if you've got an infection with something that's unexpected, rare or not previously known, you won't find it."

BBC pushing this hard this morning with, lo and behold, a trainee GP who may (or may not), have 'recovered' as a result of this type of testing.

Another grooming gang, ten men... this time they're pretty white... in fact, I was disturbed to see that my maiden name is the same as one of the guys. Shudder.

Male violence against women, especially young, vulnerable women/girls is across the board, whatever the ethnicity, religion or economic and social status.

Two tier Britain is between the very upper strata and the rest of us. Don't forget that when those who egg on divisions, fear and hate try and blame only one group.

Metagenomics is typical of where “big data” & biology overlap.
I remember this starting to intrude into pharmaceutical R&D around 25 years ago.
It took me a while to realise it’s literally propaganda. It was useful within big pharma’s research divisions because it enabled plausible sounding claims which were beyond the ability of typical main board members to interrogate.
It’s also useful propaganda with the public for the same reason.
It’s lies, however. We cannot even reliably predict anything simply from genotyping patients or the wider population. This is because environmental triggers dominate causes of illness, not genetics.
Genetics is important, but it’s role is almost always subtle because very few diseases are “monogenic”, that is, caused by a specific error in one gene. That is the exception. Almost every disease involves complex interactions of several profoundly important environmental factors, mostly revealing themselves only after long periods of time and where genetics are important, the most common findings implicate a large number of poorly understood genetic sequences. We don’t understand the functions of the proteins encoded by the genes which appear “linked” to the illness, none of which genetic factors are individually strongly determinative of illness and we literally no idea to what extent each of the factors influence one another.
This is a truly useless foundation upon which to build ANYTHING. Not diagnostics, not prognostics, certainly not drug interventions and for pities sake, definitely not with gene-modifying interventions.
In short, it’s main utility I’d to baffle people with prime, science-y sounding BS.

Best wishes
Mike

Ps: those running pharma R&D have forgotten even the basics about drug discovery research and may never bring forward a new, genuinely advanced new medical entity. Their collective return on investment is less than the input costs, covid jabs aside, which are wholly fraudulent. I could no longer recommend a young person to join this failed & corrupted industry.

Absolutely first-class journalism from DeclassifiedUK: a remote view of a very distant 'democracy'.

She paused, meeting the skeptical gazes. "I understand that this may come as a shock. I understand that many of you will question my motives, my sincerity. But I assure you, this is not a retraction of my concern for the environment. It is a refinement, a correction, a commitment to a more nuanced and accurate understanding of the complex challenges we face."

The questions that followed were harsh, accusatory. She was called a traitor, a puppet, a liar. But as she answered each question, she felt a sliver of the immense burden lift from her shoulders.

The backlash was immediate and ferocious. The environmental movement splintered. Some accused her of selling out, of being funded by fossil fuel companies (a ridiculous accusation, but one that gained traction online). Others, more cautiously, acknowledged the complexity of the issue and expressed willingness to re-evaluate their positions.

The world, it seemed, was not ready for nuance.

In the end, Greta retreated from the spotlight, dedicating herself to rigorous scientific research. She spent years studying the intricate interplay of CO2 within different ecosystems, working alongside scientists who were dedicated to finding solutions that balanced human needs with environmental sustainability.

She never fully escaped the shadow of her past. The label "the girl who lied" followed her, a constant reminder of the harm she had unwittingly caused. But she also knew she had done the right thing. She had chosen truth over fame, integrity over ideology. And in the quiet solitude of her research lab, surrounded by data and driven by a genuine desire to understand the complexities of the natural world, she found a new kind of purpose, a purpose rooted not in fear, but in knowledge and hope. The journey was far from over, but she had at least started on the right path, a path paved with honesty, humility, and a newfound respect for the delicate balance that sustains life on our planet, a balance that included, surprisingly, even carbon dioxide.

I saw David Clews of UNN post about this: indicative of the 'do we love China or don't we' conundrum. One assumes Richard Dearlove has signed up for a few sets. How many Chinese coins are to be minted with pictures of tins of Stella, bad tattoos and the 77 Brigade badge?

Montgomery Toms hit the streets to ask people what they think about conscription.

Surprisingly, many didn’t even know what it was. The good news is a lot said the same thing: they won’t fight for corrupt governments or wars driven by profit.

It’s 2025, and more people are awake to the lies. The old tricks aren’t working like they used to.

As far as I can tell, AI has just the one use, and that is spoof.

Having asked it to write an article on 'Carbon dioxide is, in fact, essential for life. Greta Thunberg admits to lying', it came back with this:

👇

The biting Icelandic wind whipped at Greta's face, stinging her cheeks as she stood on the precipice overlooking the vast, black, volcanic landscape. For years, she had preached about the evils of carbon dioxide, the imminent climate catastrophe, the melting ice caps. Now, the weight of it all felt heavier than the glaciers she had warned about.

It had started innocently enough. A teenage passion, a genuine concern for the future. But the movement had grown, fueled by fear and amplified by media eager for a compelling narrative. Somewhere along the line, the science had become secondary to the spectacle. Now, the truth threatened to unravel everything she had built.

Professor Anders Bjorn, a wizened, almost mythical figure in the scientific community, stood beside her, his face etched with the same torment that gnawed at her conscience. He had been her mentor, the one who had first sparked her interest in climate science. But he had also been the one to show her the undeniable evidence, the data that challenged the accepted narrative.

"Look around you, Greta," he said, his voice barely audible above the wind. "This barren landscape. What do you think it’s missing?"

Greta sighed, pulling her scarf tighter. "Life. Vegetation. Trees."

"And what do those things need, Greta? What breathes life into them?"

She knew the answer, the answer she had spent years demonizing. "Carbon dioxide," she whispered, the word tasting like ash in her mouth.

Professor Bjorn nodded. "Precisely. We focused so much on the potential dangers of excess that we overlooked the fundamental truth. Carbon dioxide is not the enemy. It is the foundation. Without it, life as we know it would cease to exist."

The revelation had been a slow burn, starting with obscure research papers on the importance of CO2 for agriculture and plant growth. Then came the studies on the positive effects of increased CO2 levels on the marine ecosystem, fostering phytoplankton blooms, the very basis of the ocean food chain. Professor Bjorn had meticulously presented her with the evidence, challenging her preconceived notions, forcing her to confront the possibility that she had been wrong.

The weight of the lie, the years of impassioned speeches, the global movement built on what now felt like a fundamental misrepresentation, were crushing.

"What do I do?" Greta asked, her voice thick with despair. "How can I possibly tell the world that I… that we… were wrong?"

Professor Bjorn placed a hand on her shoulder, his touch surprisingly firm. "The truth, Greta. You tell them the truth. It will be difficult, you will face criticism, you will be accused of betrayal. But the weight of a lie is far heavier than the weight of truth."

The next morning, Greta stood before the world's press, the same cameras that had once lionized her now focused on her with a predatory glint. She took a deep breath, the cold Icelandic air filling her lungs.

"For years," she began, her voice trembling slightly, "I have spoken about the dangers of carbon dioxide. I have painted it as a poison, a threat to our planet. And while it is true that excess can be harmful, I have come to realize that I presented a simplified, even inaccurate picture."

A gasp rippled through the assembled journalists. The whispers started immediately.

"Through my studies, and with the guidance of Professor Bjorn, I have discovered a deeper understanding of the role of carbon dioxide in our ecosystem. It is not simply a pollutant, but a fundamental building block of life. It is essential for plant growth, for the health of our oceans, for the very survival of countless species."
