Remember, JD Vance and his jeet wife and jeetlings recently visited India and met with Modi. Relations are clearly very good, the media reported successful trade negotiations were conducted.
The Trump Admin clearly views China as its main geopolitical threat, it's only true rival to global hegemony. India also views China as its principle geopolitical rival for regional hegemony, and therefore India is a key strategic ally of the United States. Meanwhile Pakistan is a Chinese ally.
In the past, the United States has restrained India when tensions have boiled over with Pakistan. This is because all analysts basically agree that India massively outguns Pakistan and would be very likely to win a conventional war against them, potentially triggering nuclear retaliation as the Pakistani state would feel existentially threatened. We have seen no such restraint this time, American media is barely even discussing the potential for two nuclear armed states to go to war.
And make no mistake, it is the Indians who have provoked this. The territory of Kashmir has long been contested, basically ever since the partition of India and Pakistan in the late 1940s. Kashmir was retained by the Indians despite being majority Muslim with a constitutional guarantee of relative autonomy for the region's government. The Modi government revoked this in 2019, leading to an escalation of tensions in the region as the Indian government initiated social engineering policies with the aim of politically neutralising and 'Hinduising' the region.
This was always going to provoke a reaction by Islamic separatists in the region, who are of course backed by the Pakistanis. State repression and terrorist resistance have thus become commonplace in recent years.
The Modi government clearly feels emboldened to take this course of action. It knows America feels it needs its alliance against the Chinese. But I think the recent course of events go beyond that, I think they've been greenlit by the US.

Well the Americans have significant naval forces which should be available to defend Taiwan committed in the Middle East to fight the Houthis, and they're contemplating allowing Israel to drag them into a war with Iran. Not to mention the war continues to rage in Ukraine. The US is over-committed, it can't also afford to defend Taiwan from a Chinese invasion if its committed to all these conflicts on the other side of Eurasia.
But if India and Pakistan are to go to war, and America stand down, then China would likely be forced to intervene to defend its ally and attempt to prevent a nuclear conflict on its doorstep. This would stall Chinese plans for any aggressive actions with regard to Taiwan, as they would fear a two front war, and therefore buy the Americans time to clean up Israel's mess in the Middle East and also attempt to make a deal with the Russians over Ukraine that would render them neutral in the event of war with China.
This is just speculation of course, but there's a reason why you're seeing so many Zionists come out in support of India - its not just because their enemies are Muslims - its likely also because this conflict could buy Israel the geopolitical leverage it needs to justify a bombing campaign on Iran to the China hawks in the Trump Admin.
