My position on Zane Hodges:
Certain people with no attention span can't actually grasp what my beef with Zane Hodges is.
My beef with Zane Hodges is that he is one of the "Founders" of the Free Grace Movement. Zane, like all of the other founders of the Free Grace Movement, had erroneous doctrine on Salvation. Zane Hodges taught that when the word Repentance appears in the Bible, it refers to turning from sin. This is not true.
If repent means "feeling remorse for your sins," or "stop sinning," then either God is a sinner or YOU are a BLASPHEMER.
Jonah 3:10 KJV
[10] And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
So either God just Repented of his sins, or Repent has nothing to do with sins.
Repent is translated from the Greek Word "Metanoia" which, directly translated to English, is "Beyond-Mind". Another way to understand this word is "Renew Your Mind" or "Change your Mind".
Zane Hodges tried to hide this fact by altering the Bible and participating in the creation of the NKJV which removes mentions of God repenting, like Jonah 3:10. Zane Hodges tries to make up for this false belief by saying that Repentance is not necessary for salvation. This is also not true.
Acts 2:38 KJV
[38] Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Mark 1:4 KJV
[4] John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Acts 3:19-21 KJV
[19] Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; [20] and he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: [21] whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
So, even if we remove all the verses where God repents, we are still left with multiple verses in the New Testament that links Repentance with salvation. Now, if Zane Hodges views are true, that repentance is turning from sin, then the scripture would be teaching that turning from sin is necessary to be saved.
Zane Hodges may have been right that salvation is a Free gift, but he's still a False Teacher who should be marked and avoided.
