Indian airstrikes targeted Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi, just south of Islamabad, marking a sharp rise in cross-border tensions.

Separately, a drone hit a commercial plaza in Islamabad’s Gulberg Greens, injuring at least one person, according to initial reports.
Jordanian authorities, via the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), have profited significantly from overseeing aid deliveries to Gaza during Israel’s ongoing war, according to sources cited by Middle East Eye. Acting as the sole conduit for aid through Jordan, the JHCO reportedly charges $2,200 per aid truck, with payments going to the Jordanian Armed Forces.

Additionally, Jordan has billed between $200,000–$400,000 per aid airdrop, despite limited payloads. While much of the aid originates from foreign donors, Jordan’s direct contributions are minimal. Despite public shows of support for Palestinians and over 400 airdrop operations, critics—including Gaza residents—say the aid methods are inadequate and dangerous. Aid convoys must still pass through Israeli checkpoints, and with a total blockade reimposed by Israel in March 2024, no aid has entered Gaza in over two months, pushing the region toward catastrophic famine.

A viral video showing a white Minnesota woman using a racial slur against a 5-year-old Black child at a playground has sparked nationwide outrage — and drawn more than $700,000 in crowdfunding support for the woman, who claims she now needs to relocate her family due to threats and harassment.

The video, recorded in Rochester, Minnesota, captures a man confronting the woman after she allegedly called a young Black boy the N-word. In response, the woman not only repeats the slur but also flips off the man with both middle fingers. The incident, which occurred last week, quickly spread across social media platforms, drawing millions of views.

US police detained 40 to 50 Columbia University students on Wednesday during a major pro-Palestinian protest, one of the largest on campus since last year. The students had occupied part of Butler Library, with their hands zip-tied as they were escorted into NYPD vans and buses.

The NYPD entered the six-story library to remove remaining protesters who refused to leave. Columbia officials had called for police support, declaring the students in the second-floor main reading room were trespassing.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced that pro-Palestine protests will be allowed during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the U.S. will co-host with Canada and Mexico.

Speaking alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino at the White House, Trump said protestors would be permitted to demonstrate, provided actions remain reasonable. “You have to do it in a reasonable manner — not necessarily friendly, but reasonable,” he stated.

The announcement comes as the U.S. prepares to welcome over 8 million fans for the month-long tournament from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The decision signals a commitment to freedom of expression amid heightened global attention on the Palestinian genocide.

Alireza Doroudi, an Iranian doctoral student at the University of Alabama, has self-deported after six weeks of detention by US immigration officials under unsubstantiated national security allegations. Despite entering the US legally in January 2023 and having no criminal record, Doroudi was detained in Louisiana, far from his Alabama home with his fiancée.

His lawyer, David Rozas, said no evidence was provided to support the claims, calling it a denial of due process. Doroudi chose to self-deport after being denied bond. His case is part of a broader trend of immigration crackdowns, with over 1,000 international students having visas revoked, some for expressing pro-Palestinian views. Other students, like Turkish graduate Rumeysa Ozturk and Columbia students Mahmoud Khalil and Mohsen Mahdawi, have also been detained under vague national security claims tied to their activism. Advocates call the detentions unjust and politically motivated.
Syria’s Al Qaeda-linked government has announced that Qatar will provide an $87 million grant, divided over three months and subject to extension, to help cover around one-fifth of public sector salaries. The grant is exempt from international sanctions.

Finance Minister Mohammed Yosr Bernieh revealed that Damascus had obtained a “waiver” from US sanctions specifically for this grant, which will be managed by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), adding the funds will be allocated to pay salaries for employees in the health, education, and social affairs sectors, as well as for non-military retirees.

On Wednesday, Reuters reported that the “US Treasury Department's office of Foreign Assets Control was expected to imminently provide a letter confirming the initiative was exempt from US sanctions.”

The University of San Francisco (USF) will divest from defense companies supplying Israel, including Palantir and GE Aerospace, by June 1, after sustained student activism.

Though USF claims the decision was pre-planned, students credit months of protests and negotiations, including a recent library occupation named after slain Gaza journalist Hossam Shabat.

Millions of Yemenis protested across various cities on Friday to show solidarity with Palestinians amid the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza. Such rallies have taken place every Friday since the war began in 2023.

Yemenis chanted slogans in support of Ansarallah’s military operations against Israel, while celebrating the ceasefire agreement with the US as a sign of victory, being that US military actions against Yemen failed in forcing Ansarallah to stop its support front for Gaza.

A senior Yemeni official, Ali al-Dailami from the Political Bureau of Ansarullah, issued a warning of potential sabotage on the part of the US, no more than a couple of days following conclusion an Omani-mediated ceasefire agreement between the two sides, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance.
Pope Leo XIV, elected Thursday as the first American to lead the Catholic Church, brings a history of political commentary, notably criticizing Trump-era immigration policies and Vice President JD Vance’s remarks on Christian love hierarchy. Though mostly sharing church-related content, Leo returned to X this February after a long pause to critique Vance’s views, sharing Jesuit articles opposing a ranked “order of love.” His final post before becoming pope denounced the Trump administration’s handling of a wrongful deportation case.

Leo’s online record includes nearly a decade of sharing criticism toward anti-immigrant rhetoric and policies, from reposting Cardinal Dolan’s 2015 op-ed to supporting DACA and Dreamers. Despite past tensions, Trump congratulated Leo, calling his election “an honor.”
Ansar-allah military spokesman Yahya Saree has announced that the Yemeni Armed Forces have successfully struck Ben Gurion Airport with a hypersonic ballistic missile on Friday in what he has labeled a “qualitative operation.” The Ansar-allah have also reported a successful strike on a “vital Israeli enemy target” in Tel Aviv with a Yaffa Drone.

The purpose of the strikes, according to Saree, is to further enforce a newly established no-fly zone over Israeli airspace in response to the continued geno-cidal war on Ga-za. The Ansar-allah renewed their warnings to all international airlines with regular flights into the occupied territories that air travel to Israel is no longer safe, and will remain banned until the aggression on Ga-za comes to an end.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Wednesday, May 7, 2025
A Tennessee jury has acquitted three former Memphis police officers of all state charges — including second-degree murder — in the fatal beating of 29-year-old Tyre Nichols, whose death after a traffic stop in January 2023 ignited nationwide protests and renewed demands for police accountability in the United States.

The verdict was delivered Wednesday afternoon following eight and a half hours of deliberations over two days by a jury drawn from Hamilton County — a majority-white county over 300 miles from Memphis — after the trial was moved due to concerns over pretrial publicity. The nine-day trial took place in a city that is nearly 65% Black.

Dr. Tanya Haj Hassan, a pediatric ICU doctor, condemned the ongoing attacks in Ga-za during her address at the United Nations. She described the targeting of hospitals, the killing and maiming of healthcare workers, and reports of unlawful detentions and torture as evidence of a “dystopian world” allowing such atrocities to continue.
The Pentagon will remove 1,000 transgender military members who have openly identified, and give others 30 days to come forward or leave, per a new directive following the Supreme Court’s approval of Trump’s trans military ban. As of December 9, 2024, 4,240 active, reserve, and guard troops had been diagnosed with gender dysphoria, though the number may be higher. Medical records will now be reviewed to find those who haven’t self-identified.

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell confirmed the 1,000 who identified will begin “voluntary” separation. Trans Navy veteran Rae Timberlake said those leaving face potential loss of pensions and benefits. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth defended the move, writing “No more pronouns” and declaring an end to “wokeness and weakness.”
The US is applying intense pressure on Israel to reach a ceasefire deal with Ha-mas ahead of President Donald Trump's visit to West Asia, and has been threatening to leave the entity to deal with the consequences alone if it refuses to comply, according to Haaretz.

The Trump administration has proposed an outline for a deal that would include a temporary ceasefire, the release of 5 to 8 captives - including a US-Israeli soldier - and allowing the entrance of humanitarian aid into Ga-za. Israeli officials, however, are reluctant to accept such terms, as they fear it is a hasty and watered-down deal aimed at giving Trump a win in the region, and consequently handing Israel a much less desirable outcome to the deal. Israeli sources say that Trump's insistence has put immense pressure on Netanyahu.

Senior Israeli official Steve Witkoff has informed the families of Israeli captives that a continued war in Ga-za will risk the lives of their children, and that captive soldiers can face punishment if the war fails.

X's Global Government Affairs handle posted the platform received executive orders from the Indian government requiring it to block over 8,000 accounts in the country 'subject to potential penalties including significant fines and imprisonment of the company's local employees.’

The post added, “The orders include demands to block access in India to accounts belonging to international news organisations and prominent X users. In most cases, the Indian government has not specified which posts from an account have violated India's local laws. For a significant number of accounts, we did not receive any evidence or justification to block the accounts.”

X said to comply with the orders, it will withhold the specified accounts in India alone, stating, “Blocking entire accounts is not only unnecessary, it amounts to censorship of existing and future content..." X said the decision is not an easy one, but "keeping the platform accessible in India is vital to Indians' ability to access information.”

According to Israeli Army Radio, Trump has decided to cut off communication with Netanyahu.
Trump is disappointed with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating he was going to make progress on his objectives in the Middle East without waiting for Israel, Hayom reports, citing two “senior sources close to the president.”

On a deal with Saudi Arabia, Trump wants Israel to be a central part of an agreement, but “Netanyahu is delaying making the necessary decisions.” Trump is also still upset with Netanyahu and his circle over what he sees as an attempt to push the White House into military action against Iran’s nuclear program, say the sources.

Trump’s inner circle told Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer that what Trump hates most is being portrayed as naive or manipulated, and Netanyahu was manipulating the US president.

Israeli officials were caught off guard by Trump’s recent ceasefire announcement with Yemen’s Ansarallah this week, and by the start of US-Iran nuclear talks in April.
