And while some of you may say, only 1% are extremists proves the majority are peaceful - yes but 1% of 1.8 billion is 18 million! To put it in context, more than the population of New York and London put together.

The question that always puzzled me is this suggestion : Islam is a religion of peace. Which peace? Where do we see any evidence of that? If someone said: "Our peace... When the whole world converts to Islam." I would say Bullshit!! Have you not seen what Sunni, Shia, Sufi, Ahmadi, Ismaili, Wahabi, Alwaity and others have done to each other? And yet they all believe in Islam. There was never peace in Islam.

The last 12 years of Muhammad were full of wars and killing. No sooner Muhammad died from the poison, there were large groups who left Islam. Abu Bakr (supported by Omar) declared war on them and killed a large group of them - officially making it a capital punishment to leave Islam.

And the fighting on who should lead the Umma started. Here is fun competition that demonstrate the peaceful nature of Islam. Beside Abu Bakr (who was lucky to die of natural causes just after two years of becoming a Khalifa), Umar (assassinated), Othman (assassinated) and finally Ali who waited forever for his term had to fight Aysha in the battle of the Camel that resulted in some 3,000 deaths of Muslim_on_M0slim killings only to be (assassinated).

Now let us forget all this. Instead blame the CIA, western intelligence, and zionist for terrorism, fundamentalism, and all the violence in Islam. Repeat after me "Islam is a religion of peace". Hurraaayy, not our problem anymore. 😎

When cornered badly by these Hadiths, some people will be ready to question the whole of the Hadiths, even if it is authentic. They will claim that if it is not in the Quran, then they don’t care. Well, time to move to the next reason – when the Quran makes similar promises! Are you ready for it?

Zaynab was married to Zaid, Muhammad's adopted son. One day Muhammad paid a visit to Zaid's house. Not expecting Muhammad, , Zaynab answered the door dressed in a revealing garment, and Muhammad is quoted in Tafsir Al Qurtubi and Al Tabari as saying:
سبحان مقلب القلوب
"Glory to the one who turns the hearts"

When Zaid learned of the Prophet's comments, he felt obliger to divorce her so Muhammad could marry her.

It was controversial among the Arabs, not just for marrying his first cousin but for taking his adopted son's wife. Shortly after, Muhammad received few convenient revelations:

First, reform adoption from being father / son relationship to just "caretaker". A tradition of over thousands of years in Arabia and other heavenly books with huge implications on children such as missing out on father family title and inheritance - profoundly changing relationships!

"Let your adopted children keep their family names. That is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers, then they are ˹simply˺ your fellow believers...." Quran 33:5
A few verses later...

"... So when Zaid had accomplished his desire from her (i.e. finished with her), We gave her to you in marriage.... And God's Command must be fulfilled." Quran 33:37

And just like that Allah commands Muhammad to marry Zaynab. And what happened the first night he married her? Nailed her!

Apologist: For context, Zaid and Zaynab were having marital problems and Muhammad was just trying to help. Is this the solution now, when a couple have marital problems, divorce and hand her over to your relatives? Is she a camel? And this martial dispute made its way to the eternal holy book? Allah who knows the future, did not think of banning adoption- say 20 years earlier before Muhammad adopted Zaid as his son? Or, a few years early Muhammad adopted Salim as a son and Allah said nothing!

Later, when Muhammad kept getting women offering themselves to him, and Aisha made a scene, so another verse came 33:50 saying he can marry any woman he wants to exceed the four wives limit. Prompting Aisha's famous words: "...It seems to me that your Lord hastens to satisfy your desire."

In 33:53, "Allah" tells visitors Muhammad is shy and busy. Once you have dinner, leave. Wait more, when Muhammad dies, his wives are NEVER allowed to be with another man!

While modesty and morality are deeply valued in the culture, the fixation on physical virginity has created damaging consequences, particularly for divorced women and young girls.

Divorced women, regardless of their character or life circumstances, often face immense social scrutiny when seeking remarriage. The assumption that they are “less pure” renders them undesirable in a culture where many men prioritize virginity over compatibility, integrity, or emotional maturity. This obsession creates a tragic paradox: women are encouraged to marry young, yet once divorced—often through no fault of their own—they become marginalized.

This imbalance contributes to a disturbing trend: the growing pursuit of younger, often underage, brides. Do not believe those nonsense claims that there are more women than men, this is not true. Studies show the opposite. There are more men than women. This, older men struggle to find “untouched” women within their age range, some turn to minors, perpetuating a cycle of exploitation masked as tradition. Meanwhile, millions of intelligent, capable divorced women remain sidelined—not because of who they are, but because of a narrow, physical standard tied to outdated honor codes.

This issue is about faith as well as culture. While The Prophet Muhammad himself married divorced and widowed women—he also married Aisha as a child bride and waited until she was ready to take her virginity. And we have many Hadiths on that. But maybe more damning is this Hadith.

My father was martyred on the day of Uhud and left nine (orphan) daughters who are my nine sisters; so I disliked to have another young girl of their age, but (I sought) an (elderly) woman who could comb their hair and look after them." How can an all-knowing and all-merciful Allah allow the "Owning of Humans" and owning of women as sex objects! It is, if anything, evidence the Quran is man made for men.

It is from these Quranic verses that ISIS sold Yazidi women as slaves, girls as young as infants were sold. The records now show what happened to them. Think, Muhammad did the same thing. How beautiful...how peaceful...how example for ALL humanity.

I grew up believing Shariah would bring a perfect society. But as I matured, I realised it’s a 7th-century legal system rooted in a very different world. For all its lofty ideals, it is ultimately enforced by humans—flawed, biased, and fallible. In modern justice systems, wrongful convictions can be reversed. But how do you undo a hand amputation? An execution? A stoning? You can’t. There’s no compensation for irreversible punishment.

Shariah law also struggles with modern values like gender equality and freedom of expression. In many interpretations, a woman’s testimony is worth half a man’s. Apostasy and blasphemy are treated as capital crimes. How can that exist in a time where human rights and individual freedoms are universal principles?

Another problem is practicality. Even countries that call themselves "Islamic" don’t implement Shariah fully. Why? Because it doesn’t function in a complex, modern society with diverse populations, global economies, and international laws. If it worked, you’d expect the most peaceful, progressive, and just societies to be those who apply it fully. But that’s clearly not the case.

One of the things that disturbs me most is the insistence on same-day burial. Sure, it made sense in the desert 1,400 years ago without refrigeration. But today, rushing burials can destroy crucial forensic evidence. Anyone familiar with criminology knows how many murders could go undetected because the body is gone before anyone can ask questions.

Islam is a product of its time. I understand why some seek it for spiritual aspects due to existential concerns, but its legal system is not fit for the 21st century. But here is the problem, Quran makes it clear you cannot separate those two!

Every time it rains heavily in Mecca, or it experiences a flood, shortly after this event, the surrounding areas is transformed, for a couple of weeks, to a beautiful meadows and rivers. Before you blink, social media is flooded with videos of Islamic Dawah recycling an old claim that this event is the sign: “Yum Al Qiyyama of near!!” meaning – the resurrection day is near.

Where does this claim come from? It comes from Sahih Muslim 157c.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) as saying:

The Last Hour will not come before wealth becomes abundant and overflowing, so much so that a man takes Zakat out of his property and cannot find anyone to accept it from him and till the land of Arabia reverts to meadows and rivers.

For the following few weeks, social media is flooded with pictures of meadows, green mountains, green valleys, and even deserts covered with plants. You also get people panicking, people claiming this is the time, the time has come. Fast forward a few months, nothing happens, and everyone forgets. A few years later, the same phenomenon occurred, and the same "recycling" of the claim started again. What is the explanation for this? Is Arabia and Mecca turning green an unusual thing? Well, facts debunk this claim. First of all, in my lifetime alone, I have seen at least a dozen times floods and rains turn Mecca green. Doing my research shows the following:

Flooding and heavy rains have been recurring events since records began in Mecca due to its geographical location nestled around mountains, which funnel rainwater into the city. Historical records indicate that by 1965, Mecca had experienced 89 significant rainfalls, and the most recent severe flooding occurred in 1941. This flood saw water levels in the Grand Mosque area rise to approximately two meters, submerging parts of the Kaaba and prompting some worshippers to perform Tawaf by swimming. What happens after these floods or rains? The whole area turns lush green with meadows and rivers for weeks. This is not unique to Mecca or Saudi Arabia, as this phenomenon has been recorded in deserts worldwide. What is more, the issue of heavy rainfall prompted the Saudi government to build modern infrastructure and drainage to manage it. So, in other words, it is not unusual at all.

You may argue, the repeated floods and rains is a ‘recent’ event thus would that not be the “sign”. Not really. As we indicated, at least 89 recorded floods and heavy rains have occurred. Here are some notable ones:

- The earliest recorded flood in the Islamic era occurred around 638 CE (17 AH) during the caliphate of Umar ibn al-Khattab, which inundated the Grand Mosque and the Kaaba area.
- 779 CE (162 AH) during the Abbasid era.
- 1039 CE, which caused one of the Kaaba's walls to collapse.
- 1630 CE, floods damaged the Kaaba, leading to the complete reconstruction in 1631.
- 1941 CE, when floodwaters reached approximately 2 meters in the Grand Mosque area.

And after each one of these events, there would have been people scaremongering that the ‘sign’ of end of time is here because the whole area around Mecca would have been transformed into meadows.

In recent decades, Mecca has continued to face heavy rain incidents reported in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2021, and as recently as January 2024. However, with social media invention, this scaremongering has been amplified with videos and images of the green Mecca as if this has never happened before and it is a sign of the doom!

Research shows that climate change has affected Saudi Arabia more so than many countries. Its average temperature has gone up by 2.5'C / 4.5'F in just 100 years and it is projected to continue to get higher and Saudi Arabia, and the country is going to get drier.

The Golden Age of Islam, typically dated from the 8th to the 13th century, marked a flourishing of culture, science, and intellectual life under the Abbasid Caliphate, particularly centered in Baghdad’s House of Wisdom. This period shift away from expansion and religion and saw a gradual shift where worldly pursuits such as philosophy, art, music, and even wine-drinking became prominent, often diverging from strict religious fundamentalism.

Art and music, often seen as haram, thrived under caliphal support. Music flourished in courts and urban centers, with instruments like the oud, qanun, and ney shaping a rich tradition. Poets and musicians, such as Abu Nuwas, celebrated wine, love, and revelry in their compositions, performed in taverns and palaces. Sufi mysticism further elevated music as a spiritual practice, despite occasional clerical disapproval.

Philosophy—especially Greek philosophy translated into Arabic—was central. Thinkers like Al-Farabi, Avicenna (Ibn Sina), and Averroes (Ibn Rushd) integrated Aristotelian logic with Islamic theology, often provoking backlash from religious scholars who also considered Philosophy haram! Intellectual freedom extended at times to open discussions of atheism, apostasy, and criticism of religious dogma. Poets like Abu Nuwas famously celebrated wine and earthly pleasures, reflecting elite culture’s growing secularism. Nuwas’s bacchanalian verses and tales of taverns in Baghdad highlight a permissive attitude toward alcohol, despite religion. This reflected a broader cultural openness, with interfaith mingling and a focus on worldly pleasures over religion.

This cultural high point ended when Mongol sack of Baghdad in 1258, which shattered the Abbasid political power. This was seen as self fullfiling prophecy of the "end of time" but nothing came of it. Other factors included internal theological backlash—led by scholars like Al-Ghazali—who argued that excessive philosophy, art, and liberalism endangered faith. The rise of more conservative movements also played a role in reasserting fundamentalist control. And we went back to the dark ages.

So, what really bought about Golden Age of Islam was distancing ourselves from the fundamentals of Islam, openness, patronage, and cultural integration rather that cultural domination or fundamentalism of Islam.
