The Brazilian president frequently criticizes Israel’s response to Hamas attacks, consistently using the term genocide against Palestinians. However, according to Conib, Lula fails to acknowledge that it was Hamas who initiated the conflict.

Accusing Jews of killing children is one of the oldest and most deplorable forms of antisemitism, and it is regrettable and disturbing that the president of our country continues to promote this antisemitic slander around the world. Brazil is a country where the Jewish community lives in peace and security, but President Lula, with his antisemitic remarks, seems intent on creating problems for our community by promoting antisemitism among his supporters, in an irresponsible and destructive manner.
What is missing in President Lula’s statements about the conflict is one truth: Hamas started this terrible war and hides behind civilians and Israeli hostages to advance its vision — which truly is genocidal — of exterminating Israel and Jews.
