The Yemeni people are paying a heavy price for standing with Gaza. And while that price is being paid with dignity, it is not a light one. Israel’s decision to destroy the airport is both punitive and preventive. It seeks to eliminate Yemen’s aerial capabilities, to psychologically break their resolve, and to remove a key node of international engagement.
And yet, how Yemen chooses to answer will shape what follows. For now, what is clear is that Yemeni endurance remains unshaken. Anyone who witnessed the scene at al-Sabeen Square last Friday understands the spirit of defiance that lives on.

In December 2021, the Saudi-led coalition boasted that it had rendered Sana’a Airport inoperable and had sealed all land, sea, and air access points to Yemen, in an attempt to block alleged weapons shipments from Iran. Now, in May 2025, it is the Israeli occupation army echoing the same message: “We have completely disabled Sana’a International Airport.”
Why did Israel strike the airport?
• First and foremost, to deter Yemen from targeting Israel’s most vital aviation hub: Ben Gurion Airport. Yemen’s leadership knew exactly what they were doing when they struck it, and Israel is well aware of the psychological and logistical blow that action dealt.

▪️Forcing the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to the southern part of Gaza.
▪️Using humanitarian aid as leverage against Hamas.
According to statements by Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, Gazan residents will be relocated to the area south of the Morag Axis, which is marked in orange on the map. This area has experienced “complete destruction” over the past month. It is assumed that people entering the zone between the Morag Axis and the Egyptian border will undergo security screenings and receive food and aid upon arrival.
Israel is planning to exert tight control over humanitarian aid in Gaza through the use of private American security firms, with highly restricted distribution, making aid access a condition for lifting the current blockade.
Two American contractors—Safe Reach Solutions and UG Solutions—will manage logistics and security affairs, without arrest powers. A nonprofit organization based in Switzerland is currently being established to handle funding.
Only 60 trucks will be allowed to enter daily, which is one-tenth of the previous volume. Aid will be distributed at six Israeli-controlled centers, guarded by American contractors and accessed using facial recognition technology.
Former President Donald Trump has effectively given Netanyahu the green light to act in Gaza as he sees fit.
