Some of you may have already heard that Grok (X's stupid AI chat bot) has found its way to Telegram in a sanctioned move by Telegram's owners. Currently, it's "only available to Telegram Premium users," but those of us who have been around for a while know that it's just a hop skip and a jump away from opting everyone in to allowing Grok to scrape everyone's posts and files.
As we here at OwliGator Studios have been saying from the beginning: We are completely against the use of generative AI for any fucking reason at all. In our eyes, there is no ethical way to use it, and it shouldn't be used for any reason, regardless of what anyone's argument might be to the contrary (we honestly don't care, keep any contrary opinions to yourselves, they won't be read). As such, we're going to be watching this situation very carefully. If it's clear that Telegram is moving in the direction of selling everyone down the river by giving Grok (or, hell, any other LLMs that might be let in) scrape user data and files, we will strip this place bare and move to a different platform that doesn't support that bullshit. We'll keep you all informed, of course, we don't want to keep all our fans in the dark.
