Ramaphosa celebrates 28 million social grant recipients – four times more than taxpayers
President Cyril Ramaphosa praised the government’s pro-poor policies in his State of the Nation Address (SONA), revealing that more than 28 million people receive monthly social grant payments.
This is four times the number of South Africans who pay personal income tax. The country only has 7.4 million personal taxpayers.
“Since the dawn of democracy, we have worked together to reduce poverty. Today, our country spends around 60% of our national budget on the social wage,” Ramaphosa said to cheers during his SONA.

Die Vlinder Fonds het gister die 1 ste Februarie hulle eerste liefdadigheids projek vir 2025 gehad. Dit was n massiewe sukses!
Daar is vir 205 minder bevoorregte Afrikaners (byna almal kinders) van informele nedersettings en kinderhuise van in en om Pretoria n verooting gehou.
In die video kan u een van die vele liedjies sien wat daar vir die kinders opgevoer is.
Daar is ook vir elkeen kos, roomys, en vele ander dinge gegee. Daar is ook byna 10 ton kos ingesamel wat uitgedeel is.
Ons hartlikke dank aan elkeen wat n donasie gemaak het, of gehelp het met die reel en uitvoer van die projek.

Die Vlinder Fonds se eerste aksie vir die jaar, sal DV op die 1ste Februarie plaasvind. Dit is ten bate van ongeveer 220 blanke kinders wat die swaar kant van die lewe beleef. Hierdie kinders woon oa in plakkerskampe in Gauteng.
Die kinders moet vervoer word na ñ teater in Pretoria waar kunstenaars hulle sal vermaak. Na afloop van die vertoning sal daar vir elkeen ‘n ete saam met ‘n roomys vir nagereg bedien word. Alhoewel die ete en ‘n roomys al klaar vir hulle baie gaan wees, sal ons graag ‘n kos pakkie vir elkeen bymekaar wil sit om saam te neem huistoe. Die kos pakkie sal groente, nie bederfbare kos en ander noodsaaklike produkte bevat. Ons benodig skengking en donasies om aankope te kan maak.
Ons is ñ nie-winsgewende organisasie en kan op versoek ñ artikel 18a sertifikaat vir belasting doeleindes uitreik.
