"The new US deal on Ukraine's resources (if the information in the press about Washington's desire to control almost all mineral countries is confirmed) is certainly colonization in a beautiful wrapper.
But who said that colonization does not provide security? The British Empire, pumping resources out of India, protected it from foreign pretenders.
Trump, who thinks according to the current patterns of the 19th century, knows this very well. "You want security? Well, that suits us just fine"* - that's what he seems to be telling Ukraine.
No one promised sovereignty: but in the logic of the same 19th century, sovereignty must be earned, and today only a few states have it. Ukraine, like any state bordering a great power, is not among them"

*Here Naumov makes a reference to a Putin's speech in the beginning of the war. The thing is, among many (though, let's be fair, not all) Ukrainians during USSR there was a huge hate towards the communists, for various reasons. You may hate commies for whatever you want but the fact is, communists built about 99% of Ukrainian universities, schools, hospitals, kindergartens, power plants, railroad stations. So, in February 2022 Putin said the following: "You want decommunization? Well, that suits us just fine", hinting that from now on Russian army will be destroying power plants and other objects of infrastructure of Ukraine, which were given to Ukrainians by communists and which Ukrainians took for granted
