Journalist Nakary Ramos was allowed to have private defense.
On April 14, a source from the Caracas branch of the National College of Journalists (CNP), who requested anonymity, informed Efecto Cocuyo that the young journalist had been granted the right to private defense and was being held at a scientific police station.
"This is the first case in which a lawyer has been appointed, compared to the 15 press workers detained in the post-election context,"

Journalist Rory Branker's mother demands to know his whereabouts: "We need news of him."
"I want to know where my son is, please. Help me, this is killing me. We need news of him, please," Cheryl Ann Branker said in a video posted on social media. The family insists the journalist is in a state of enforced disappearance, as they have had no contact with him since his arrest and have no reliable information about his whereabouts.

False opposition party Primero Justicia expels Henrique Capriles, Tomás Guanipa, and Juan Requesens
The Primero Justicia (PJ) political party issued a statement to all Venezuelans announcing the expulsion of leaders Henrique Capriles, Tomás Guanipa, and Juan Requesens, among others, from its ranks after they ran in the elections scheduled for May 25.
Also on the list are: Amelia Belisario, Ángel Medina, and Pablo Pérez.
"It is particularly outrageous and scandalous that figures like Henrique Capriles and Tomás Guanipa, following negotiations with the Maduro regime, have been selectively approved, despite having been disqualified until just a few hours ago, and have been granted an electoral card, while the country's legitimate parties continue to be prosecuted and held hostage by the ruling party. All of this occurs while political prisoners and party colleagues are persecuted, tortured, in hiding, or in exile for thinking differently," the statement published on the black and gold party's social media highlights.

🇪🇨❗️Polls Close in Ecuador’s Razor-Tight Presidential Runoff – Noboa Declared Winner
➡️ Noboa’s Victory: Incumbent President Daniel Noboa (37) secured reelection with 55.8% of votes, defeating leftist rival Luisa González (44.1%) in a runoff dominated by voter concerns over drug violence and economic crisis.
➡️ Fraud Allegations: González rejected the results, calling it “the worst electoral fraud in Ecuador’s history” and demanded a recount. Her mentor, exiled ex-President Rafael Correa, echoed claims of irregularities, though international observers dismissed fraud allegations.
➡️ Security Mandate: Noboa’s “iron fist” policies—including declaring an “internal armed conflict,” deploying troops, and building high-security prisons—drove his campaign. Homicides dropped from 46.18 to 38.76 per 100,000 under his rule, but Ecuador remains Latin America’s most violent nation.
➡️ Controversies:
- Noboa’s alliance with Erik Prince (Blackwater founder) and plans for U.S. military bases sparked backlash.
- A 60-day state of emergency was imposed pre-election, citing gang threats.
- Critics accuse his tactics of human rights abuses and authoritarianism.
➡️ Economic Turmoil: Voters also weighed 14-hour daily blackouts, 28% poverty, and a 1.5% GDP contraction. González promised Correa-era social programs, while Noboa pushed austerity.

UN expert: We have received cases of deported migrants that could be considered enforced disappearances.
The United Nations (UN) Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances is processing cases of Venezuelan migrants deported to El Salvador that could be considered enforced disappearances, said Ana Lorena Delgadillo, a member of the Working Group, who noted that they have already sent the corresponding communications to the governments involved.
"We have received information that is already being processed through our mandate (…) We have received information on cases that could be considered enforced disappearances," the working group expert said in a telephone conversation with El Pitazo, who explained that the communications to the countries were recently sent.
In most of these cases, a pattern of enforced disappearances and violations of due process emerged, in which detainees were not informed where they were being transferred, nor were they allowed to speak with their families or appeal the decision.

Petro warned that there are another five million Venezuelans willing to migrate
Colombian President Gustavo Petro stated this Thursday that five million Venezuelans could migrate from that country if US President Donald Trump continues with his policy toward Venezuela.
"And the first city (they would reach) well, that has its chain" is "Bogotá, the one that would attract the most," although later there would be "a dispersion in South America and then all that stuff goes to the United States," he expressed.
