Cudell First - No Gas Stations Next to Parks and Schools
Cleveland City Councilman Danny Kelly is attempting to force Ordinance 791-2024 through Council that would allow for a gas station on the vacant CVS site at 10022 Madison Ave. Both the Board of Zoning Appeals and the City Planning Commission have rejected this spot-zoning proposal because it does not align with the goals of a Pedestrian Retail Overlay district which is to have safe, walkable, community-oriented retail.
It was reported last December that the City was hoping to build a new fire station at this site. However, because of the property owners’ greed, they haven’t been able to reach an agreement with the City on a price for the parcel. The re-introduction of Ord. 791-2024 after being temporarily pulled last October can only mean two things: 1) negotiations fell apart and the owners are following through on building the gas station, or 2) an attempt is being made to increase the value of the land by rezoning it. Neither is acceptable.
This legislation was unfortunately passed by the Development, Planning, and Sustainability Committee on April 8th with Councilmember Jenny Spencer as the only no vote. It will now move to the full Council for a vote.
Please contact your City Councilmember, Cleveland - Find your ward , and demand they vote NO.
We will also be holding a press conference/rally on the steps of City Hall on April 14th, 2025, beginning at 6pm. Please join us in letting City Council know that residents come first - not gas station developers!

From Axios 🇺🇸 A weekly local protest of Elon Musk and his DOGE team has drawn the attention of a Columbus chapter of the Proud Boys extremist group.
The Proud Boys, a far-right group with dozens of chapters nationwide, are known for "violence, targeted harassment and intimidation" and their role in the Jan. 6 riots.
President Trump has called Tesla protesters "sick terrorist thugs," and the FBI is investigating attacks elsewhere targeting the vehicles.
A little-followed Truth Social account called Proud Boys of Columbus posted Tuesday that "chapters from all over the state" will be coming to Easton this Saturday.
"We've decided this time we'll just join the crowd, maybe see what we see. Recording faces, getting names, license plates, definitely have a chat with the 'friendly' domestic terrorists so we can join their Discord and Signal groups."

The image of the fortune teller’s wagon is ingrained in the American psyche—similar to cowboys and Native Americans, and unfortunately with all the stereotypes. Few know the Roma as real people, or know that 'gypsy' isn't the actual term. Despite arriving with Columbus in 1492, their cultural impact—including bluegrass, soul food, architecture, and more—is often overlooked entirely.
Many early Roma families settled in Appalachia for refuge, leaving their mark in the modern "Melungeon" DNA. Even today, over a million Roma live across America, with communities in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Southern California. Sadly, despite their vibrant culture and impact, many feel unable to publicly identify as such due to increasing discrimination.
So, show some love to any Romani folks you know today! 🩵☸️💚

A major spontaneous gathering to protest the abduction of Mahmoud Khalil by ICE and the US govt, who plan on deporting him despite having a green card and being a permanent legal resident. His school, Columbia University (New York), is suspected to have worked with ICE.
He was sent to an ICE center in Louisiana so that he could be separated from his lawyer and 8 month pregnant wife. Khalil was a loud voice in his schools community against the Palestinian genocide and often seen as a leader.
He was often described by those around him as very kind, eloquent, and measured with his words, often thrusted into being the voice of the student led movement.
