🇱🇧Statement issued by Hezbollah on the death of the Pope of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hezbollah extends its heartfelt condolences to the State of the Vatican, to the followers of the Catholic Church around the world, and to all Christians—especially our Christian brothers in Lebanon and the Papal Embassy therein—on the passing of the Pope of the Catholic Church, Jorge Mario Bergoglio (Pope Francis), who believed in peace, called for the rejection of wars, and worked with deep faith to sow the values of love, tolerance, and bridge-building among religions, civilizations, and peoples in pursuit of dialogue, understanding, and justice.
Pope Francis, through his inspiring positions, embodied the spirit of interfaith dialogue. His prominent meetings with Islamic authorities in Najaf al-Ashraf and al-Azhar al-Sharif were milestones that sparked the flame of love and carried the message of human fraternity.
His clear stances—calling for an end to the “israeli” aggression on the Gaza Strip (until the very last moments of his life), denouncing the massacres being committed against our people in Palestine, demanding the provision of humanitarian aid, his official recognition of the State of Palestine, and his support for the Palestinian cause—as well as his unwavering support for Lebanon in all stages and his condemnation of the “israeli” aggression against it, all reflect the sincerity of his call and his commitment to humanitarian values that reject oppression wherever it may be.
The Lebanese people, in all their sects and groups, are called upon to remember the words of Pope Francis, who described Lebanon as “a message with great meaning,” expressing a model of coexistence and national unity. They are also called to draw wisdom and strength from his spirit in confronting challenges and resisting attempts to sow discord and division in our beloved country, Lebanon.
