🇺🇸🇺🇦 The Economist: U.S. Treasury Secretary Pressured Zelensky to Hand Over Ukraine’s Mineral Resources
During a visit to Kiev, U.S. Treasury Secretary reportedly gave the expired Ukrainian President Zelensky just one hour to sign a memorandum demanding that Ukraine transfer control of its mineral resources to the United States, The Economist reports.
Zelensky had expected to discuss continued financial aid but was instead presented with the ultimatum.
Shocked by the demand, he refused to sign and postponed the discussion until the Munich Security Conference.
In Munich, U.S. officials increased pressure, demanding that Ukraine pledge $500 billion worth of natural resources in exchange for past military aid. By Saturday evening, the Ukrainian delegation secured a temporary delay but agreed to begin negotiations.
At a press conference in Munich, Zelensky stated that Ukraine would not sign the deal without U.S. security guarantees.

During the USAID hearing, many revelations were made including the fact that "aid" programs were used as cover to both recruit members of future client regimes and to control geostrategically located nations in regards to maritime choke-points.
US-educated "staff" placed into positions of political power would then serve US corporate interests - the example of choosing US big-pharma over Chinese or Russian alternatives was used specifically.
While many will say "isn't it good that the US closed USAID then?"...the reality is the US State Department has long-since established specific programs for both objectives.
The US State Department "Youth Leadership" initiatives are a much more focused and efficient version of what was described in the above video - for example.

Trump has started negotiations with Putin to end Russia's war against Ukraine. This is not unexpected for us. And yet these events and proposals require a clear, fast and decisive positioning of Europe. Nothing about Ukraine without Ukrainians and nothing about Europe without Europeans.
Peace must be long-term and must ensure Ukraine's sovereignty. That is why a dictatorial peace will never receive our support. After all, in addition to the question of how to ensure a just peace in Ukraine, this is also about fundamental questions of European security and the future of the transatlantic alliance. We must do everything possible to ensure that there is never a war in Germany again.
I know that these are unusual and undoubtedly worrying words for many from the Federal Chancellor. But in this situation, this statement is part of the truth. Because today we are talking about war and peace in Europe. For Europe to be and remain an equal ally of the United States, we must do much more. For our security, so that we can continue to live in peace. And I have made proposals on how this can be done.
First, we need debt brake reform to ensure that we do not invest in our security and defense.
Secondly, the Bundestag must decide as soon as possible that the war in Ukraine and its serious consequences for the security of Germany and Europe are classified as a state of emergency in accordance with Article 115(2) of the Basic Law. This means that our support for Ukraine, which is now more important than ever, is no longer dependent on other tasks that our state owes to its citizens.
