Trump's tariffs are being used as leverage to force negotiations (Trump, Bessent, Miran etc. have said this explicitly) and the endgame is to rebalance the global trade system, reindustrialize America, force countries to pay for US-provided security instead of freeloading, and so on.

Just a quick post on this NATO conscripting people and forcing them to fight in Ukraine stuff I'm seeing being discussed more and more.
Long story short. It won't happen.
Even well before we reach that point, and I don't think we will to be honest with you, there are other options that they would consider.
The state of the European and Russian armies aside, one of the things they'll is do what Russia have done over the course of the war. Which is change citizenship laws and massively increase immigration into Russia in exchange for joining the army. Europe will do exactly the same.
There's a panic, even reflected in the markets today with crypto and stocks collapsing, but at the very least, panics happen, then people can take a look at how things really are.

EU document on exchange rates. Notes that the US Secretary of the Treasury and Stephen Miran supporting the idea of dollar devaluation being a policy objective.
Things are starting to make a lot more sense now, in terms of how the tariffs have been implemented.
If your dollar is too strong, then what better way to do this than create mass chaos in the market and then bring people to the negotiating table.
Dollar drops in value, interest rates are cut as a response and the debt becomes far easier to service, perhaps?
You can read the document here.

Remember, the point of universities is to act as filter for people to run the country; to become the ruling class.
In the light of major geopolitical challenges and the proper functioning of a country, this is not a good sign, all things considered.
This is wholly unrepresentative of the country as a whole, yet it is Trinity and UCD graduates whom tend to disproportionately occupy your positions of power and influence in the country.
Charles Murray, in his book Coming Apart described this phenomena.
Ultimately what is going on here, is that the richest, most affluent parts of the country are living in a bubble, a fantasy, compared to the rest of us.

The more I think of it, the McGregor thing was a Trump/American foreign policy way of simply getting Irish Americans on your side, just before Trump potentially obliterates a part of the Irish economy with tariffs, in particular on pharmaceutical products. Remember, with all of the businesses here, the tariffs would have a disproportionate impact on us and Irish Americans still carry a lot of power and a lot of influence.
I think the Irish reaction was organic, natural, and what you see is what you get. But also, it was predictable.
The other explanations (trying to damage Irish nationalism) don't make as much sense to me. Also, why would you purposely damage your own reputation in order to damage a movement that didn't even get one person elected in the last general election?
I don't think this was just an accident either. Surely they had to know what they think about McGregor, and the symbology of having him there on the actual St Patrick's Day, rather than on the 12th as well.
So if you were to do that, do you want Irish Americans blaming Trump? Or the Irish establishment who are doing what McGregor says they were doing. If say, Ireland's economy was to go south.
With St Patrick's Day, of all days to pull something like this off.

Going live tonight at 21:30 to talk about Storm Eowyn and the aftermath; how the Irish government responded to it and why exactly they responded to it in the way that they did; why this is so important and what will happen going forward.
We're going to tie this in with Dublin 4 as well.
I'll open up comments later on.

Ivan Yates and Matt Cooper discussing the housing market.
Ivan mentions, in addition to various big names in construction, how an outfit called John Spain's predict the housing output this year to be 25,000, with no solution to the housing market by the next election (scheduled) for five years time.
I've argued this exact point for the past year or so, so its nice to see more people are noticing this.
Why is this starting to accelerate?
Well, one major reason is that our water infrastructure is falling over and is responsible for two thirds of water supplies not being able to meet new housing targets.
You can watch the stream where this clip comes from (skip to 48 minutes in) here.

There aren’t 33,000 NGOs in the country—there are 33,000 NON-PROFITs. Stop using "NGO" like a reflex. It sounds ridiculous and makes you look uninformed to the opposition.
Out of those 33,000, maybe 200 qualify as actual NGOs. And around 20 of them drive 80% of the damage. They’re cheap ideologues, running on a fraction of the €6 billion-plus the government funnels into non-profits every year.
Take the NGO behind the hate speech legislation—it pushed the entire agenda on a budget of just €1.5 million a year. And not a penny of that came from the Irish Government.

One of the best videos if not the best that I've watched on the storm.
We know its trees being blown over and flattening wires/electrical poles that has been a major cause of the issue.
However, what about the quality of the trees themselves? It's trees planted for money, harvesting purposes that are ultimately extremely weak and easy to blow over.
