Humanitarian mission to the Ukrainian South 🏴
Recently, Solidarity Collectives made a joint trip with Eco Platform to the Vuhlyk (ua Charcoal) shelter. South greeted us with vast landscapes and steppe wind, escorting us to our destination.
Vuhlyk is an animal shelter with a long history and has a few branches near Dnipro, Mykolaiv, and Kherson. The branch that we visited sits on the outskirts of the village and specialises mainly in horses, though it has other inhabitants: goats, ponies, donkeys, dogs and cats.
We were welcomed in by the workers who were unloading hay brought by other volunteers. As for our part, we brought an aid cart: several bags of dog food, vegetables, fruits, medicines for horses, and fuel for generators to ensure access to electricity. Shelter has two stables, one of which is in need of repair, meanwhile, the animal population is constantly growing.
One of the workers who has for many years taken care of the wards happily showed us around and introduced us to the animals. They joyfully interacted with us and eagerly tasted the sugar we brought. The volunteer also told us about hardships that the shelter faces and stories of the saved animals and the individualities of each of them. Some were bought out just before being sent to butchers, others saved from the frontline territories or simply left by their owners. Stories are diverse, but all of them found their home at Vuhlyk.
The shelter needs help, and despite conditions that are harder to change — war, occupation, shortage of workers and trained veterinarians there are ways to do so. Provide food, medicine, and proper care of its inhabitants. Vuhlyk exists thanks to donations and volunteer support. We agreed to support their shelter and provide what’s necessary. Гуманітарна місія на Півдні 🏴
Нещодавно відбулася спільна поїздка Екологічної Платформи за підтримки Колективів Солідарності до притулку «Вуглик». Південь зустрічав неосяжними просторами та степовим вітром, що проводжав нас до самого місця призначення.
«Вуглик» — притулок для тварин, що має довгу історію та існує у декількох філіях біля Дніпра, Миколаєва та Херсона. Філія, до якої ми завітали, розташована на околицях села та спеціалізується переважно на конях, але також має інших мешканців: кіз, поні, віслюків, собак і котів.
По приїзду нас зустріли працівники, які вивантажували сіно, передане іншими волонтерами. Ми, зі свого боку, передали нашу тачанку допомоги: кілька мішків корму для собак, овочі, фрукти, ліки для коней, а також паливо для генераторів, щоб забезпечити доступ до електроживлення. Притулок має дві стайні, одна з яких потребує ремонту, в той час як його населення постійно збільшується.
Працівник притулку, який вже багато років опікується місцевими мешканцями, радо провів для нас екскурсію та познайомив з тваринами, що із задоволенням взаємодіяли з нами та смакували привезений цукор. Також він розповів про виклики, з якими стикається притулок, про історії врятованих тварин та особливості кожного. Деяких тварин викуповували безпосередньо перед відправкою до м’ясників, деяких — вивезли з лінії бойових дій, а деяких покинули господарі. Історії різні, але всі вони знайшли свою врятовану долю у «Вуглику».
Притулок потребує допомоги, і окрім обставин, на які повпливати важче — війна, окупація, нестача працівників і досвідчених ветеринарів, є те, чим ми можемо зарадити: забезпечення харчуванням, лікуванням та належним доглядом усіх його мешканців. «Вуглик» існує завдяки пожертвам та волонтерській допомозі. Help Ukrainian anarchist Hengist recover after an injury! In 2024, we supplied his unit with anti-drone protection. Now he needs our support to cover his medical treatment. In his own words:
“My call sign is Hengist, I come from the Ukrainian hardcore punk movement of the noughties. I’m an anti-fascist and anarchist.
I've been at war since day one. I fought at Soledar, Urozhaine, Vuhledar, and Bakhmut, where I was first wounded.

📅 April 11th: The International Day of Liberation of the Nazi concentration camps
Today we remember the millions of people imprisoned and murdered by the Nazi regime — Jews, Roma, political prisoners, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, prisoners of war, and civilians.
It’s also important to remember that anarchism was outlawed in Nazi Germany for 12 years — from 1933 to 1945. Members of anarchist groups were arrested, murdered, or sent to death camps.
But this isn’t just about the past.
More than 8,000 Ukrainians — both civilians and soldiers — are still held in Russian captivity.
Many have been imprisoned for over a year with no contact with the outside world. Numerous captives have died as a result of torture, lack of medical care, or executions. Stories of abuse, humiliation, and denial of treatment are an everyday reality.
On March 4th, the international human rights organization Amnesty International published a report titled “A deafening silence: Ukrainians held incommunicado, forcibly disappeared and tortured in Russian captivity” According to their findings, in 2024 alone, there were over 109 documented executions of Ukrainian POWs and widespread use of torture.
Russian authorities are deliberately denying international organizations access to Ukrainian prisoners, effectively placing them outside the protection of international law. Out of 3,767 prisoners returned to Ukraine, every fourth was someone previously listed as missing or whose captivity had never been confirmed. These people were abducted, disappeared without a trace — and only now do we know they are alive.
Today, Solidarity Collectives also stand with the community of Druzhkivka, which gave shelter to many survivors of Nazi concentration camps. Those who once survived fascism now find themselves under fire again — Druzhkivka is regularly shelled by Russian forces.
We remember history, and we see how it repeats itself.
Our demand remains unchanged: free all prisoners of war and civilian hostages.
Silence kills — solidarity saves.

Free Denys Matsola and Vladyslav Iskra Zhuravlov
Three years ago, Denys Matsola and Vladyslav Zhuravlov were captured. Their family, friends and colleagues kept it under the radar until recently, fearing for the guys’ wellbeing and in the hope of a potential prisoner exchange. But three years without any news or a change is too much. So we’re starting an open campaign.
Denys is Crimean IDP, a publicist, and a political scientist. He was among those helping internally displaced people, organised events and was a member of the union Priama Diia (Direct Action). Vlad, his comrade and brother-in-arms, had served as a marine since 2017. They were fighting for Mariupol as a part of the 501 Battalion. It was there they were captured.
For the last two years, Denys has been placed in solitary confinement in Detention Center No. 2 in the city of Kineshma (Ivanovo region, Russia). During three months in 2024, he wasn’t being properly fed. This poses a direct threat to his life. Vlad is also in russian captivity. We don’t have direct information about the conditions he’s in, but according to the eyewitnesses of former prisoners, we’re talking tortures, humiliation and constant pressure.
We, as a collective, hadn’t worked with Denys and Vlad before their capture. But those who knew them personally remember them as decent, empathetic and reliable friends. It is important to support them now, as three years of imprisonment is exhausting them mentally and physically.
We call on you to stand in solidarity. Here’s how you can help:

-Organise an event on writing letters for POWs in your city, group or community

Три роки тому до полону потрапили Денис Мацола та Владислав Журавльов. Увесь цей час друзі, близькі та колеги не повідомляли публічно про їхню ситуацію, побоюючись за безпеку хлопців та можливість обміну. Але три роки без новин і змін — це занадто. Тому ми починаємо відкриту кампанію.
Денис — кримський переселенець, публіцист, політолог, один із тих, хто займався допомогою переселенцям, організовував події, був учасником профспілки «Пряма Дія». Влад — його товариш і побратим, служив у морській піхоті з 2017 року. Вони обороняли Маріуполь у складі 501-го батальйону. Там їх і захопили в полон.
Протягом останніх двох років Денис перебуває в одиночній камері у СІЗО №2 міста Кінешма (Іванівська область, РФ). У 2024 році його майже три місяці не годували належним чином. Це створює пряму загрозу його життю. Влад також у російському полоні. Ми не маємо точного уявлення про умови, але за загальними свідченнями колишніх полонених — мова йде про тортури, приниження і постійний тиск.
Ми, як колектив, на жаль, не працювали з Денисом і Владом до полону. Але ті, хто знав їх особисто, згадують їх як чесних, чуйних, надійних товаришів. Важливо підтримати їх зараз — коли три роки позбавлення волі виснажують фізично й морально.
Ми закликаємо вас до солідарності. Що можна зробити:

Hello, friends!
The past four months — from November to February — have been incredibly intense and productive for us. We stepped away from the format of monthly reports due to the pace of work and the constant stream of events. But today, we want to share the highlights and outcomes of this period with you.

Solidarity Week
The brightest moment of this winter was Solidarity Week — when dozens of initiatives, activists, and groups around the world united in acts of support for the Ukrainian resistance. From Tokyo to Tel Aviv, voices of solidarity rang out, highlighting the global unity in the fight for freedom.
Entering our third year
We marked the start of our third year of activity. We summarized the previous year in a short video report, showcasing our key achievements and plans for the future.

Привіт, друзі!
Останні чотири місяці — з листопада по лютий — були для нас надзвичайно насиченими та продуктивними. Ми відійшли від формату щомісячних звітів через інтенсивність роботи та безперервний потік подій. Але сьогодні хочемо поділитися з вами підсумками цього періоду.

❗️Рівно три роки тому наш колишній колега, кримський переселенець Денис Мацола та його товариш Влад Журавльов потрапили до рук окупантів під час боїв у оточеному Маріуполі.

🇬🇧 “You are a pro-war anarchists.” We’ve heard this so many times. So many times we’ve had to explain that the war is a horrible tragedy for everyone living in Ukraine, and more than anything we want to achieve peace. Sustainable and fair peace. But here’s the key reason that prevents that: the Russian Federation, which continues to capture Ukrainian territories and wipe entire cities off the face of the earth. And today, the whole world can witness that.
The ceasefire conditions can hardly be called fair (20% of Ukrainian lands remain under occupation, about 16,000 prisoners of war are in Russian prisons, and postwar recovery will cost Ukraine 0.5 to 1 trillion euros). Despite this, Ukraine declares its readiness for a temporary ceasefire as the first step towards a long-term peace agreement. Russia, in contrast, demonstrates unwillingness to participate in this process. Shortly, we will hear a lot of declarations about how much Russia wants peace, but… And the “but” will be followed by a thousand reasons why even a temporary ceasefire is impossible, and why Russian troops must continue to advance in Ukraine.
We would like to see all these “anti-war left” who have spent so much time criticizing the supply of weapons to Ukraine “for the sake of peace” to finally notice the other side of the conflict. The actual culprit of why this war even began and has been going on for three years: is the authoritarian Russian regime. And, at the very least, to see them stop blaming the victim and criticizing weapons supplies. See them realize that capturing lands costs the lives of not only people in the military but also civilians because for civilians the war does not end when occupation begins.
We are closely watching the global political events, but we know that the real resistance to the aggressor is done by the people of Ukraine and international volunteer soldiers, including our comrades. It is their extraordinary effort that allows politicians in high offices to argue among themselves, make peace, and discuss conditions. So let’s continue to support our fighters and never forget whose side everyone who strives for real peace, not capitulation to empires, should be on today.

Free Denys Matsola and Vladyslav Iskra Zhuravlov
Three years ago, Denys Matsola and Vladyslav Zhuravlov were captured. Their family, friends and colleagues kept it under the radar until recently, fearing for the guys’ wellbeing and in the hope of a potential prisoner exchange. But three years without any news or a change is too much. So we’re starting an open campaign.
Denys is Crimean IDP, a publicist, and a political scientist. He was among those helping internally displaced people, organised events and was a member of the union Priama Diia (Direct Action). Vlad, his comrade and brother-in-arms, had served as a marine since 2017. They were fighting for Mariupol as a part of the 501 Battalion. It was there they were captured.
For the last two years, Denys has been placed in solitary confinement in Detention Center No. 2 in the city of Kineshma (Ivanovo region, Russia). During three months in 2024, he wasn’t being properly fed. This poses a direct threat to his life. Vlad is also in russian captivity. We don’t have direct information about the conditions he’s in, but according to the eyewitnesses of former prisoners, we’re talking tortures, humiliation and constant pressure.
We, as a collective, hadn’t worked with Denys and Vlad before their capture. But those who knew them personally remember them as decent, empathetic and reliable friends. It is important to support them now, as three years of imprisonment is exhausting them mentally and physically.
We call on you to stand in solidarity. Here’s how you can help:
-Sign a petition to free Denys and Vlad
-Write them letters
-Organise an event on writing letters for POWs in your city, group or community
-Organise online meetings with those who know the guys personally. Contact us, and we’ll help facilitate it

«Як політичного активіста, мене значною мірою сформували антифашистський рух і хардкор-панк сцена. Моє життя включало регулярні вуличні бійки з неонацистами, охорону концертів, івенти солідарності з російськими анархістами та антифашистами. Ми з товаришами також були залучені до екологічної боротьби — одним із найбільших заходів був міжнародний протестний табір проти вугільного терміналу в Севастополі у 2009 році. Ми також брали участь у кампанії проти платних освітніх послуг, після чого у 2010 році була заснована синдикалістська студентська організація “Студентська Дія”.
Проте у 2014 році ми опинилися в новій ситуації, коли старі доктрини більше не працювали».
У лютому-березні 2014 року російські солдати без розпізнавальних знаків окупували Кримський півострів — і це докорінно змінило все в політичній діяльності Олександра. Його ув’язнили в росії на 5 років і 4 місяці після підпалу колишнього офісу Партії Регіонів у Сімферополі.
«16 травня мене заарештувала ФСБ, після чого мене перевезли до Москви. Товариші в Україні, а також у росії та інших країнах організували кампанію підтримки мене та Олега Сенцова».
Він повернувся до України 7 вересня 2019 року після обміну полоненими — значною мірою завдяки міжнародній кампанії солідарності, яка полегшила час у в’язниці та створила тиск на російський уряд.
У 2022 році, після початку повномасштабного вторгнення росії, Олександр приєднався до лав українського спротиву. Він досі воює, але знайшов час, щоб дати це інтерв’ю.

Через сім років Екоплатформа повертається у Вуглик!
У далекому 2018 році, ми регулярно допомагали львівському притулку для всіх тварин, котрий постійно виборював у місцевої влади право на те життя, яким мають жити всі істоти — без зазнання пожиттєвої експлуатації.
"Вуглик" переживав складнощі ще до повномасштабного вторгнення: в січні 2018го пожежу, через, вирогідно, навмисний підпал, а після дискредитувався замовними статтями в ЗМІ та місцевими, не поділявшими принципів етичного співжиття.
Врешті притулок переїхав і розширився на кілька філій в різних областях. Ми відвідали Миколаївську, де переважно живуть коні, поні і віслюки, яких врятували від експлуатації або викупили у м'ясників, також евакуйовані з зони бойових дій кози, собаки, й коти. Це нагадування про те, що всі істоти мають право на життя і захист, і залишати їх без спроби знайти вихід це не питання неможливості, а питання пріорітетів. Докладайте зусиль, щоб евакуація охоплювала й тих, хто не має голосу, але так само відчуває біль і страх.
Спільно з Колективами Солідарності ми змогли покрити нагальні запити: передати тачанку овочів та фруктів, знеболюючі хворіючим коням, бензин для заправки генераторів, корм собакам та рафінований цукор, від якого дуріє віслюк на останньому фото.

Our comrade Oleksandr Kolchenko gave Takku an interview
“As a political activist, I was largely shaped by the anti-fascist movement and hardcore punk scene. My life included regular street fights with Nazis, guarding hardcore gigs, and solidarity events for Russian anarchists and anti-fascists. My comrades and I were involved in environmental struggles as well, the largest of which was the international protest camp against the coal terminal in Sevastopol in 2009. We also participated in a campaign against paid university services, after which a syndicalist student union called Student Action was founded in 2010.
However, in 2014, we found ourselves in a new situation where our old doctrines no longer applied.”
In February-March 2014, unmarked Russian soldiers occupied the Crimean peninsula, and this changed everything for his political actions. He was imprisoned in russia for 5 years and 4 months after an arson attack on the former office of the Party of Regions in Simferopol.
“On May 16, I was arrested by the FSB, after which I was taken to Moscow. Comrades in Ukraine, but also Russia and other countries, organised a campaign in support of me and Oleh Sentsov”
He came back to Ukraine after a prisoner exchange on September 7 of 2019, largely due to an international campaign in solidarity that eased the time in prison as well as pushed the russian government to consider releasing him.
In 2022, after the full-scale russian invasion started, he became a fighter in the Ukrainian resistance. Today, he is still fighting and took the time to answer this interview.

Три роки тому до полону потрапили Денис Мацола та Владислав Журавльов. Увесь цей час друзі, близькі та колеги не повідомляли публічно про їхню ситуацію, побоюючись за безпеку хлопців та можливість обміну. Але три роки без новин і змін — це занадто. Тому ми починаємо відкриту кампанію.
Денис — кримський переселенець, публіцист, політолог, один із тих, хто займався допомогою переселенцям, організовував події, був учасником профспілки «Пряма Дія». Влад — його товариш і побратим, служив у морській піхоті з 2017 року. Вони обороняли Маріуполь у складі 501-го батальйону. Там їх і захопили в полон.
Протягом останніх двох років Денис перебуває в одиночній камері у СІЗО №2 міста Кінешма (Іванівська область, РФ). У 2024 році його майже три місяці не годували належним чином. Це створює пряму загрозу його життю. Влад також у російському полоні. Ми не маємо точного уявлення про умови, але за загальними свідченнями колишніх полонених — мова йде про тортури, приниження і постійний тиск.
Ми, як колектив, на жаль, не працювали з Денисом і Владом до полону. Але ті, хто знав їх особисто, згадують їх як чесних, чуйних, надійних товаришів. Важливо підтримати їх зараз — коли три роки позбавлення волі виснажують фізично й морально.

🇬🇧 This weekend, the Ecological Platform together with Solidarity Collectives is heading on a trip to an all-animal shelter in the Mykolaiv region.
The shelter team has been rescuing animals in need for the past six years. Operating across various regions of Ukraine, it has become a sanctuary during the full-scale war — now home to horses, ponies, donkeys, sheep, regular and dwarf goats, dogs, and cats rescued from active combat zones and areas under occupation.
Keeping the shelter running is no easy task: since the invasion, some of the staff joined the Defense Forces, the number of animals keeps growing, and caring for them requires serious resources. Every day here is a struggle — for warmth, food, medicine, and a chance at the future for their residents. The shelter survives thanks to volunteers and kind people who believe in the idea of humane treatment for all animals.
We’re bringing the essentials: food, medicine, fuel for generators that keep them going during power outages.

Минулого місяця за вашої підтримки у багатьох містах світу відбувся Тиждень Солідарності до третьої річниці повномасштабного вторгнення Росії в Україну
Різноманітні спільноти об’єдналися, організувавши анархістські чорні блоки на демонстраціях, що пройшли у більш ніж 20 містах світу. Багато товаришів відгукнулися на наш заклик або самостійно провели заходи, кінопокази, концерти на підтримку українських антиавторитаріїв.
У Чехії, як завжди, програма була насиченою. Наші друзі з Resistance Support Club організували благодійний кінопоказ короткометражного фільму та дискусію у Брно, де збирали кошти на дрон «Сич», необхідний нашим товаришам з аеророзвідки.
23 лютого відбувся Riot over River Fest. На фестивалі працювали дві головні сцени: локальні та українські нойз-музиканти від колективу «Cohesia», а також хардкор-сцена, де відіграв чеський емоційний хардкор, метал і краст. Зібрані кошти також були передані на літачок.
Завдяки їм та іншим товаришам ми буквально за два з половиною місяці закрили велетенський збір на 1 172 000 гривень.
Колектив «Dekonstrukce» провів показ фільму «Стоп-Земля», а товариші з Tabor Solidarity організували захід із засновницею Queer War Archive, активістами GNIP та зустріч із Яном Мартиновським, чеським волонтером на Півдні України.
В Іспанії 22 лютого антивоєнний блок та антифашисти з Валенсії організували концерт Noise For Cause з металом, нойзроком та павервайленсом.
З 24 лютого по 3 березня активісти Анархістської Групи в Амстердамі з Анархістською Бібліотекою, автономним центром Vrankrijk та різними сквотами провели цілих п’ять заходів на нашу підтримку, серед яких були кінопокази трьох документальних стрічок та панк-концерт.
4 березня Syndicat de la montagne limousine у Франції організували захід із лекцією, у якому ми взяли участь онлайн — захід пройшов при повній залі.
Крім демонстрації, наші друзі з Taxanka в Барселоні провели ще чотири івенти, зокрема кінопокази та дискусії.
Наприкінці нашого «Тижня солідарності» Têkoşîna Anarşîst у Рожаві опублікували текст, який нагадує всім у нашому русі про важливість критики у товариських стосунках.
Ми щиро вдячні організаторам усіх подій, а також тим, хто не залишається осторонь і приєднується до спільної боротьби.
