Russia does not need Assad, who is most likely relieved to be safe -- with his family -- in a country that will take good care of him. Russia might use its superior missile capacity to remain ensconced in Tartus and Latakia.
I mean, if Russia is sufficiently motivated to stay put, not even the US will try to uproot them.
This could be the agreement that drove the final nails in the coffin of the Assad government.
In any case, Russia is free to walk away from every other defective piece of the still highly unstable Syrian puzzle.
After all, it is increasingly obvious that at the slightest provocation Russia has the capacity to blow up the whole region.
