Tatarstan has become a major center for recruiting Russians to hot spots in Africa, Idel.Realii writes.
Starting in March, Tatarstan's media launched a large-scale information campaign to recruit Russians for the African Corps, a unit created in 2023 to strengthen Russian influence in Africa and provide military assistance to Russian-loyal governments, with 100 local residents signing a contract by the end of the month.
Recruitment is taking place in Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny. Those who sign the contract are promised 2.5 million rubles ($30.700) in a lump sum: 400,000 from the defense ministry and 2.1 million from the republic's government, as well as a minimum salary of 240,000 rubles ($2950) a month "during the period of temporary duty."

Americans, Europeans fear World War III could break out in 5 to 10 years
Many Americans and Western Europeans believe that a third global conflict could break out within five to 10 years, with the most likely reason being tensions in relations with Russia.
This is evidenced by a YouGov poll run the eve of the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day, published by The Guardian.
The survey also showed that the vast majority believe the events during and preceding World War II are still relevant today and should to be taught in history lessons the younger generation.
It is reported that between 41% and 55% of respondents in five European countries surveyed – the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain – said they believe another world war is quite likely to break out within the next five to 10 years, a view also shared by 45% of Americans.
According to the poll, Russia is seen as the most likely cause of another world war by 72% to 82% of Western Europeans and 69% of Americans.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has called on all foreign states to refrain from sending their military to the parade in Moscow on May 9.
"The participation of foreign military personnel in this event is unacceptable and will be regarded by Ukraine as an insult to the memory of the victory over Nazism, the memory of millions of Ukrainian front-line soldiers who liberated our country and all of Europe from Nazism eight decades ago," the Foreign Ministry warned.
