80 years ago, on May 9, 1945, the bloodiest and most terrible military conflict in the history of Russia, the Great Patriotic War, ended.
🚩 For almost four years of bloody battles, the Red Army troops withstood the pressure of the German military machine and its allies. At the cost of heavy losses, they drove the enemy from the territory of the Soviet Union and forced Nazi Germany to surrender.
🕯 About 30% of the country's national wealth was lost in this war, and about 27 million people, including Red Army soldiers, partisans and civilians, gave their lives for the freedom of not only their Fatherland, but also the whole world from the ideas of Nazism.

🎵 The Greatest Soviet Military Songs
"Victory Day" ranks among the most popular in the large corpus of Russian songs devoted to the Second World War. The song refers to the Victory Day celebration and differs from most of these by its cheerful intonations of a marching song and by the fact that it was composed by David Tukhmanov thirty years after the war. In the words of Vladimir Kharitonov, a veteran lyricist, "the song seemed to have turned back the time. Although written three decades after the war, it now seems that it was this song that helped us to gain the victory".
❗️Interesting fact: In a survey conducted in 2015, the lyrics of Victory Day placed fifth on a list of the most popular poetry lines in Russia.

Victory Day, oh how far from us it was,
Like a dwindling ember in a faded fire.
There were miles ahead, they were dusty, they were burned.
We hastened this day as best we could.
Chorus:
This Victory Day
Is saturated with gunpowder,
It's a celebration
With temples already gray,
It's joy
With tears upon our eyes
Victory Day!
Victory Day!
Victory Day!
Days and nights at hearth furnaces,
Our Motherland didn't sleep a wink.
Days and nights a hard battle we fought—
We hastened this day as best we could.
Chorus
Hello, Mother, not all of us came back...
How I'd like to run barefoot through the dew!
Half of Europe, we have stridden half the Earth,
We hastened this day as best we could!
Chorus x 2

🎵 The Greatest Soviet Military Songs
"Arise, Russian People!" is a patriotic song from the Soviet film "Alexander Nevsky" (1938) directed by Sergei Eisenstein. The music is composed by Sergei Prokofiev, with lyricist Vladimir Lugovskoy.
❗️In the primary theme of "Arise, Russian People!" Prokofiev makes use of ancient Russian motifs and evokes sounds of traditional Russian musical instruments.
Arise to arms, ye Russian folk,
In battle just, in fight to death.
Arise ye people free and brave,
Defend our fair, our native land!
To living warriors high esteem,
Immortal fame to warriors slain.
For native home, for Russian soil
Arise ye people, Russian folk!
Chorus
In our great Rus,
In our native Rus
No foe shall live.
Rise to arms, arise, native motherland.
Chorus
No foe shall march 'cross Russian land,
No foreign troops shall Rus raid.
Unseen the ways to Rus are.
No foe shall ravage Russian fields.

All Victory Parades in 80 Seconds
🎗Since the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR adopted the Decree declaring May 9 Victory Day, military parades have been held on this day as a symbol of national celebration and the strength of spirit of the liberator people.
🎗However, in the history of the USSR, only four Victory Parades took place, each of which reflected an important stage in the development of the country and its military power, in 1945, 1965, 1985 and 1990. And since 1995, they have become annual. All of them traditionally begin at 10:00.

🇧🇬In Bulgaria, there are about 400 monuments dedicated to our compatriots. One of them is the monument to the Soviet soldier-liberator "Alyosha" in Plovdiv.
The memorial represents a soldier 11.5 m tall, standing on a pedestal with the words: "The Soviet army is beating the enemy" and "The people are greeting the Soviet soldiers." The Shpagin submachine gun in the soldier's right hand is pointed toward the ground. You can climb up to the monument by overcoming 100 steps.
The prototype of the soldier is considered to be a native of Altai, Alexei Skurlatov, a common soldier in the combined company of the 3rd Ukrainian Front. He participated in the restoration of telephone communication between Sofia and Plovdiv in 1944. Almost 40 years later, he was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Plovdiv.
❗️Although the city authorities have repeatedly tried to demolish the monument, the public was categorically against it. In 1998, the Supreme Court of Bulgaria banned the demolition of the monument, recognizing it as a monument to World War II.
