Pastor Rikki Doolan appeared in Al Jazeera's "Gold Mafia" documentary, which investigated gold smuggling and money laundering networks centered in Zimbabwe. In the documentary, Doolan, a UK-based pastor associated with prominent Zimbabwean diplomat Uebert Angel, was allegedly involved in discussions around facilitating money laundering and smuggling gold to Dubai. Angel, who is Zimbabwe's special envoy and a senior pastor, reportedly offered to use his diplomatic status to circumvent customs regulations and help smuggle large sums of money into Zimbabwe.
Doolan was shown explaining how laundering could work, suggesting that illicit cash could be converted into gold within Zimbabwe and then exported to Dubai for "clean" money. The documentary featured Doolan proposing that a face-to-face meeting with President Mnangagwa could even be arranged for a fee, though he later denied these claims, asserting the documentary was selectively edited to create a misleading narrative
